Why can't FSDL start online betting for ISL matches, something on the lines of Skybet in U.K.? Although gambling is a restricted activity under law, online betting on sports, especially sports of skills like cricket, football, horse racing etc is not illegal per se. In fact tge issue of legality of sports betting is pending before Supreme Court in Geeta Rani v. Union of India case. So Reliance can start an ISL/I-League betting website and fantasy team concept and earn revenue through that. That way it will get extra revenue plus the incentive to have more games in the league (more matches = more bets = more money for them). Maybe then our leagues will become longer.
Many states have banned the sale of Lottery tickets. Lottery used to be source of government earning. Those states might rethink if a private league is allowed sports betting, what is the problem in Lottery Ticket then ??
Dream11 anyway has allowed legal betting in cricket and football. So, I guess ISL might be demanding more money from them otherwise they are working with IPL.
