6-2 win for India.Malaysia, got outclassed to say the least.Everyone, even Uthappa played well.
We really controlled the game. Our attack and defence were really creative and clinical.
The lack of intensity which I had spoken about in previous two matches was visible from the first Whistle.
The only negative thing which the coach shd look upon is that 5 min spell in around 52-57 min where our Defence Switched off and conceeded 3-4 penalty corners for Stick Checks outside the "D".
This was, perhaps India's best match of the Tournament and it almost seals India's Spot for the Final.(Mathematically still not confirmed but realistically it is confirmed)
I always believed that if India's Starting 11(best 11 plays ) then India shd be beating Asian Teams by a Margin of atleast 2 goals but so much changes to the team and inconsistent performances have created doubts.
Hope we play like this against Pakistan and in the Final as well.
India convincingly beat Pakistan in our final super 4 game and enters final. Most probably we will face Malaysia in the final unless they loss to Korea in the last match.
The first half was very even.Everything was working for Pakistan and nothing was working for us.Even half with Pakistan means we were not playing well. Our Energy was missing,
However,we outclassed them Completely in the Second Half.Second half we thumped them and gave them a Hockey Lesson.
My Observation, with so many youngsters in the team,we are struggling to break teams who are playing Deep Defence against us(Korea,Pakistan). We have absolutely thumped those teams who have actually played attacking Hockey against us.(Japan, Malaysia)
Today also,we scored 4 Goals against Pakistan because after our 1 St goal, they had to come all out.
We are playing Liverpool (Football Comparison)if I may make a Footballing Compaison.
The reason why we are struggling is because when the opponent defence is sitting deep,in order to counter that,we need to rotate the ball quickly(Which requires good trapping and passing skill which our Youngsters are not that well equipped with as of now).
There are two ways to counter Deep Defence Tactics:-
1)Playing quick Hockey i.e move the ball quickly,one-touch pass and try to make Penalty Corners and score from it,because if you will take the lead, the the opposition will need to move forward. They'll have to come forward and it will provide you with Space and gaps.
2)Another option is,You should try to hit balls regularly in the "D" and make Penalty Corners.Playing deep Defence will mean that the number of players in the "D" will be more, which will mean more chance of hitting the foot.Once, you score the opponent will move out and give you space. It's just like Kabbadi"It's easier to score a point when 7 Defenders as against 4 Defenders because 7 require more Structure and Similarly,Playing deep Defence will make them vulnerable to Penalty Corners through foot foul in the "D".
