Not just ICL, he wants to start a rebel ICC, BCCI, cricket Australia, and so on. But it seems ICC has successfully pacified him and allowed him to bid for cricket telecast again after removing all earlier restrictions.
@Coolgagan, you are right. In fact I advocated 6 from I-league and 6 from ISL, that is, 12 to start with. Then it can be expanded slowly to 16. Your views on number of foreigners are also right when one considers just the quality of play. But wouldn't different numbers of foreigners disturb the rhythm of the teams? An Indian player in slot of a foreign player will not get his footings in the AFC Cup, so meaningless. I can go with slightly more than 3+1, that is 4+1, say. In the short term, this will affect the quality yes, but in the long term this will help enlarge the pool.
Plus having so many really quality foreigners on season-long contracts would hike the team budget enormously; not many clubs would be able to sustain it, and would compromise on the quality over quanitity.
I really don't think there'll be a second team from Northeast other than Northeast United after expansion. The likes of Shillong Lajong, Royal Wahingdoh, Aizawl will most likely go back to play in state leagues. They simply don't have the deep pockets required to stay.
@Deb_Ban, If you change the 6+5 rule of ISL, there will not be much of a difference between ISL and I league. What's required is ISLification of I league, not Ileaguification of ISL.
