We can have PSU's play alongside 2nd div side.. just don't promote them until they fulfill the criteria... We can have them played like USL sides in USA ...
I wont advocate for PSU's in santosh trophy because top teams in santosh trophy has majority of players from PSU and also tournament ends in fortnight or at best a month.. but PSU's got team good enough to survive 2nd division at ease.. also it would help the team be allowed to play their youth sides which means more kids given exposure too
Ya, it would be weird to see these sides come in cause it would not just be Air India or ONGC but I imagine other PSU sides such as HAL or maybe even the likes of State Bank of Travencore could want/be eligible for the Trophy then. Oil India in Assam as well etc and its these teams that supply the states.
The Santosh Trophy has also been known for its history as a state vs state tournament with Services and Railways in on historic basis... would be strange for it to be dominated by the PSU sides.
This idea is just to stop Santosh Trophy just like what they did with Durand Cup and other tournaments like IFA shield. Disturb and then close it down. Look how they moved Durand Cup out of Delhi last year and then close it down. Why? Their master not making profit so close it down? If they are so much interested suddenly in PSU clubs after removing them from I-league, how about letting them play in tournaments like Durand Cup, Rovers Cup, IFA Shield, Sikkim Gold Cup. All those tournaments they have detroyed on some pretext. Change venue, make it age-group and now this new baloney about PSU in Santosh Trophy. Santosh ttrophy derives players from PSU type clubs for the tournament. Once you mix it with clubs and state FA, tournament will be destroyed.
Nothing stopped them. Air India won the Durand Cup in 2012 and PSU type clubs have always been in it. IFA Shield is an IFA competition so out of the AIFF's hands really and Sikkim Gold Cup is the same but PSU's have played in that as well.

Yeah but they closed down Durand Cup this year as it was clashing with ISL. Same way disturbed many other tournaments like changing them to Age Group. It is not only about PSU. Other clubs and non ISL players get a chance to compete. That chance is being ruined.
I don't think it is fully due to ISL. Durand Cup happened during the ISL in 2014 and is organized by the army. Really the only competition the ISL has destroyed is the Federation Cup while hindering others.
