It is not about the 100 supporters of Salgaocar or SCG. It is not about football history as well, or the way football is treated at Goa. The two clubs combined have given India more players than the numbers of supporters they have (Quality-wise, we have to remember that we get players as good as our basic football structure is). I, for myself, would have been proud of this fact if I were among the owners of these two clubs. Eight ISL franchisees together in three seasons could not bring out a single player, and the intention is also not there.
To deny this is fit for a newbe only.
To say Goa has 100 football fans is a major affront. It is foolhardy to believe Goan fans emerged after the birth of FC Goa.
AIFF is solely responsible for breaking down the existing football structure -- however faulty it is -- and putting up nothing in its place. If I-league is a wrong business model, so is ISL.
Will Goan football be hurt? Will it survive the blow? With Dempo's intentions to follow suit, the emerging footballers of Goa will have only 4-5 slots of FC Goa to look forward to. This about sums up the future. And this is not a question of survival of Goan football only. This will affect the way football is viewed in the whole country, in the long run.
Goan football won't be hurt by this. They have the Pro League, they have the ISL side. They don't have the monopoly they shared with Kolkata a few years ago.
