“This season the league has been planned well by taking all stakeholders into confidence and we are also expecting a title sponsors within a week. All the 12 teams are upbeat for the league,” said GFA President Elvis Gomes.

he league which once boasted of India’s bigwigs -- Dempo SC, Sporting Clube and others had slowly lost its charm over the years due to various reasons but the GFA is trying their best to revive the league as the action moves in the South Goa also with three additional venues namely Rosary Ground, Navelim; Poriat Ground, Calangute and Signals Ground.

It’s been learnt that Duler Stadium has been opted as their home ground by seven teams — Sporting Clube, Dempo SC, Salgaocar FC, Goan FC, Vasco SC, Panjim Footballers and FC Bardez.

Calangute Association will utilise Poriat Ground while Corps of Signals will play on their Signals Ground. Guardian Angel SC, Churchill Brothers and Velsao SCC will play their home match on Rosary Ground, Navelim.

“This season definitely it’s going to be better for the fans as well as they will be able to see their teams at their convenient venues,” informed GFA General Secretary Welvin Menezes.

The booking of the grounds and organisation of the matches will solely lie with the home team.

“We had tried our level best to have the matches during the weekends but due to the scarcity of grounds, and especially considering the fact that Duler will be the home of many teams, it is becoming a Herculean task,” added Welvin.

A leading bank is learnt to have been roped in as the title sponsor for the upcoming season.
