Sometimes you want to ban these stupid comments at all. If you don't feel safe run away from here dude. This guy is so obsessed with I-League that he comments on every I-League match when the hardcore supporters might not be interested he is interested. Remember @hadfadkar who kept on posting news without any other comments. Just like that this guy keeps on his anti I-League views every now and then without bothering

INDIA LOSE TO UZBEKISTAN IN FIRST MATCH OF TURKISH WOMEN’S CUP

The Indian Women’s Team came up short in their first match of the Turkish Women’s Cup against Uzbekistan, as they lost by a narrow 0-1 margin on Wednesday, February 27. India Head Coach Maymol Rocky believes that the early goal proved to be the undoing of her team, as Uzbekistan bagged the win.

“We were unlucky to concede a goal early on, and that cost us in the end. Our girls showed a lot of heart and played really well against quality opposition like Uzbekistan,” said Maymol. “Perhaps if we had taken our chances, the result may have been different.”

Despite the loss, Maymol took heart from the fact that the team has improved a lot in the last couple of years. “A couple of years back (in April 2017) Uzbekistan had defeated us 7-1. Compared to that, this performance is much better. We will take the positives from this match, and look to iron out the mistakes before our next game against Turkmenistan,” she added.

Uzbekistan got off to an early start after the match kicked-off as Burhanova Malika put the Central Asian nation in the lead in the fourth minute. This provided a lot of momentum to the Uzbek attack, but thedefence, along with India keeper Aditi Chauhan, managed to keep them at bay in the early exchanges after the goal.

A 25th-minute substitution by India saw Jabamani Tudu replace Michel Castanha at the left-back position. India mounted a few attacks after this substitution, but the Uzbek defence managed to negotiate them.

The Indian eves came out with more conviction in the second half, with Dangmei Grace looking to use her long-range shooting abilities. Defenders Dalima Chhibber and Sweety Devi came to India’s rescue mid-way through the second half, as they made crucial clearances.

India had the golden chance to draw level with just six minutes of regulation time left on the clock, but striker Anju Tamang missed the target from inside the penalty area. Soon after, Chhibber also failed to hit the target from close range, before the referee brought the match to an end.

India Starting XI: Aditi Chauhan; Sweety Devi, Ashalata Devi, Michel Castanha, Dalima Chhibber; Sangita Basfore (C), Ratanbala Devi, Sanju; Dangmei Grace, Manisha, Indumathi.

INDIA LOSE TO ROMANIA IN TURKISH CUP

Coming on the back of a 10-0 win against Turkmenistan, the Indian women went down 3-0 against Romania in their last group stage match of the Turkish Cup today (March 03, 2019).

Out of three matches played in the group stage of the Turkish Cup, the Indian women won againstTurkmenistan but lost to Romania and Uzbekistan. The play-off match for the women to decide their standing in the Turkish Cup is slated for March 05, 2019.

Romania got off to a dream start and found the net as early as the 15th minute to take an early lead. Capitalizing on their early dominance, the opponents doubled their lead in the 30th minute after Dalima Chhibber failed to make a clearance handing the opponents a leeway. The half-time scoreline read 2-0 as Romania led.

Coach Maymol Rocky decided to bring on Roja Devi for Ratanbala Devi to add to her attack in the second half. In the 68th minute, Grace ran clear off her marker but could only shoot over the bar as the women searched for a way to reduce the deficit.

Romania upped their attacking ante in hopes of extending their lead but were held at bay by astute defending in the second half. But Romania found the net again in the 87th minute as the full-time scoreline read 3-0 in their favour.

India starting lineup: Aditi Chauhan, Ashalata, Jabamani, Dalima (C), Sweety, Sangita, Indumathi, Ratanbala, Sanju, Grace, Anju.

Seven Manipuri players who pulled out of national camp, write to AIFF complaining of ‘favouritism’

The letter, addressed to the AIFF’s general secretary Kushal Das, failed to elicit a response from the federation.

Seven players from Manipur who had previously withdrawn from the national camp that was held at Cuttack prior to the Gold Cup and Turkish Women’s Cup, had written about the reasons of their decision in a letter to the All India Football Federation. The letter was addressed to the AIFF’s General Secretary Kushal Das.

India had started the year strongly, stringing together five consecutive victories, but fell to defeats against Nepal and Myanmar and did not make it to the final of the Gold Cup in January in Odisha. At the Turkish Women’s Cup, India finished sixth, losing 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out in the fifth/sixth classification play-off to lower-ranked Kazakhstan.

Seven internationals had pulled out of the camp in Cuttack with no official reason given for the withdrawal of these players. The players also did not feature in the 12 international matches played in the months of January and February. The letter, which is yet to receive a response from the AIFF, sheds further light on the discord within the team.

The letter, a copy of which is available with Scroll.in, alleged that the “Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the National Team are not able to bring the team together and in fact play divide and rule policy leading to a stifling situation in the camp and the team.” The head coach of the team is Maymol Rocky and her assistant is Chaoba Devi.

Among these seven players is Bala Devi, who has 36 international goals to her name. The 29-year-old, employed with the Manipur Police was reached out to, but she declined to comment on the matter.

Kamala Devi, who has made 61 international appearances, is also among the seven players and was the AIFF’s Woman Footballer of the Year 2017. Bala Devi, also a two-time player of the year, was the captain when India won their last SAFF Cup in 2016.

Another of the players chose to speak anonymously, fearing non-selection for future national teams. “The problems between us and Chaoba Devi started long ago. Some of us do not play for her team Kryphsa and play for other teams in Manipur. That in turn, led to her singling some players out,” said the player.

Bala Devi also played for Kryphsa under Chaoba Devi in the last edition of the Indian Women’s League, but was on loan from the Manipur Police. In fact, nine Manipuri players had boycotted the camp but two had been sent back to the camp by their guardians.

The majority of the players who boycotted the camp, including Kamala Devi, played for the Eastern Sporting Union team in the last IWL held in Shillong. Bala Devi had finished as the top scorer with 12 goals, but her team Kryphsa had been knocked out in the semis by eventual champions Rising Student on penalties. ESU had finished runners-up, and been the inaugural champions of the IWL.

Another source close to the players had stated the players had approached Rocky regarding Chaoba Devi’s behaviour, but the coach had stuck by her assistant, leading to the mass withdrawal from the camp.

The letter also stated that the Olympic qualifier against Nepal was marred by infighting. India went on to draw that match 1-1, but qualified for the second round.

One of them even used expletives to many of us now and then which are intolerable. Their attitude resulted in lack of camaraderie which was seen in the result against Nepal. Not only are they arrogant challenging the players now and then saying we will not be selected if we do not toe their line. We follow what is instructed in the field as per their plan but they are hell bent on destroying the gamesmanship by openly showing favouritism which was pointed out but it made both of them even more vindictive. Not only in selection of players for the team, even for fielding there is favouritism.

    — The letter written to the AIFF makes strong allegations.

The second round of the Olympic qualifiers are in April, where India will once again face Nepal and hosts Myanmar, apart from Indonesia.

Scroll has reached out to the AIFF and Kushal Das for a comment, but they haven’t responded yet. This story will be updated as and when a response is received.
