Bala Devi

In a groundbreaking move, Indian woman footballer, Ngangom Bala Devi, signed an 18 month deal with the renowned Scottish club, Rangers Women's FC. This makes her the first woman footballer in India to sign a professional contract with an overseas club as well as the first Asian international to join Ranger's Women. At Rangers, Bala will play in the Scottish Women’s Premier League 1, which is the premier division for women’s football in Scotland. The league will run from February to November, with eight teams participating this season in SWPL 1.

Bala has had a distinguished career with the Indian national team, having scored 52 goals in 58 matches and having served as the national team captain in an international career which began when she was 15 years old. A prolific goalscorer at the national level with more than 100 goals, she is also a two-time recipient of the AIFF Women Player of the Year award. Bala said, “I am very excited that I could make history. This will be a very big moment for India.”  Rangers manager Amy MacDonald hailed her move as "inspirational for players everywhere."

This thread is dedicated to Bala Devi to track her progress as she breaks new grounds and explores uncharted territories.
