    But didn't he achieve some level of success with the diamond formation, if i am not wrong. I used to enjoy the Bengali mag called Khela. They used to write abt these things. Do we stil get it there?

    the 4-4-2 diamond needs the full back to overlap to provide the neccessary width..... currently none of our full backs can provide that....

     <br><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>You are correct, there was some success for sure but it did not work as well with Indian players as it did in the west at that time, the prime reason being the inability of Indian players in certain positions to move back and forth, move laterally, which is very very desired in modern football. You just can't sit in one place all the time, you need to have dual roles and ability to switch positions to at the basic minimum to keep the opponent guessing.<br><br>In my initial reaction on Manish Bhargav after seeing him in a few games, I raised his inability to switch, a basic minimum for any right winger. Forget Robben, Ribery, even wingers in Calcutta football of the likes of Bidesh Bose, Ulganathan used to do this with elan. This keeps the opponent guessing as to which way will he run, on the inside or on the outside. It's easy for a wing back to block one side, not easy to block both sides. If you have watched the Bayern Munich versus Indian national team game closely, you would have noticed how Nabi was all at sea against Robben because Robben was confusing him with his body feint and moving the other way, that challenged a player of Nabi's calibre so much so that he even slightly injured himself. <br><br>Manish Bhargav, runs always on the inside, a deficiency first raised by me, now has become a talking point in Calcutta, almost all fans, officials I discussed this raised it themselves in private conversation. Then we together decided to do a thorough research on the growing years of Manish as a footballer. What we found out Manish was a striker in Chandigarh football academy but was turned in to a right winger at MBSFA because he impressed one and all with his speed on ball and the cute little dribble, that suits a winger more than a striker.  He still has to work on the outside dodge to develop into a complete winger as well as long crosses using the corners of the pitch. His example is often used to portray how academy products here are not technically complete forget the exposure and the mental prep, no wonder there is a proposal on the table of MB youth development programme CEO to invest in specialized coaching in lines with the AJAX model, which again requires more money, takes time to find some as always.</div>

    Rob Bahn working overtime to introduce Total Football, which incidentally is the most balanced system in vogue today, to the U23 team, who, given their erstwhile technique, fitness and stamina, are having difficulty to adjust to this new system<br><br><img src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/532809_465159996831053_100000111710232_1970083_2137702980_n.jpg">;

    <br><br>Total football is the most balanced football formation!!!! LOL<br><br> :))<br><br>And India or Rob Baan is no way introducing total football...I have attended the camps and I saw the system or the ideas...its no way 'Total Football'<br><br>P.S. By 'total football' I assume the idea development by Rinus Michels in 70s and the formation with with which Dutch took the 1974  WC by storm...no one plays that now and not India for sure<br>

    hey that ws great reading.one gets unrivalled perspective in to the reasons behind EB n MB rivalry...
  • @Rudra Calm down bro. Do you expect it to work straight away. These kids were taught the old way for there whole lives and now at ages 18-21 they have to straight away go to Total Football. It wont happen this summer.... I would give it a year (From what I have seen with the US National team and there new style. The first 5 games they went 0-1-4 with the new coach and then they went 5-0-0 the last 5 games, excluding Brazil)<div><br></div><div>We probably wont see a proper Total Football India till the u14 players are old enough. Even the seniors will have trouble but you know what... does not matter. The players are learning and that is all that matters. Long term it will be great.</div>

A defender and attack and attacker can defend. The overall shape stays the same, only players change position and ofcourse a proper defender attacks for less time and a proper attacker defends for less time. Even the goalie was chose for his outfield abilities as he had to stay outside his box (the defense line is very up)... So that's Total football, obsolete in present context...neither Holland plays that neither we need it...</font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2"><br></font></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">But bcoz Holland has been famous  for that, the poor reporter heard Holland plays total football so that means Holland coach training us that...thats funny!</font></div>
