actually this idea is given by sunil chhetri only to sportin's president...so y not try it out???
  • Actually no, I take that back. Sporting Portugal in Goa can actually work. So, try it out but use the national team instead.

Tbh i think the first Indian to play abroad in a decent club without Marketing purpose would be play in 2-3 yrs time.

Decent club means either first division of 2nd tier Countries like Belgium.Denmark,Sweden Etc or 2nd division of 1st tier countries like Spain, England, Italy etc.

You underestimate the first tiers of Belgium, Denmark, and Sweden.

I am not underestimating the teams of Belgium,Denmark ,Sweden etc as i have already mentioned them as decent clubs but surely Brandon can be the person who might get an opportunity to play in 1st tiers of these clubs or second Division of England ,Spain etc.

I also think that Dika might play in Europe but his best chance is to start from second division of 2nd tier countries or 3 division of 1 tier countries.I know that you won't agree with Dika but surely Brandon could be playing in 2-3 years time.

Yes, you are underestimating these leagues. I dont blame you though, I blame supposed football experts from the media. For them there are 3 tiers... The big super leagues like the Premier League... the lower leagues like Denmark... and then India. So if a player is to good for India then surely he must be good enough for Denmark when that is not true. Any person who watches these leagues can tell you that.

As for Brandon, well I cant say what will happen in 2-3 years as we dont know whether he will still be at the Academy or if he will be in Europe doing whatever. Right now though Brandon is playing in the 3rd tier of South Africa practically playing against other teams who are also youth teams or amateur/semi-pro. To go from that to Denmark or Sweden would be suicidal. Not only because of the on-field aspect but also off the field he would need to get used to the culture and climate. He would fail fast.

If anything, in his current state, I would suggest Brandon stay at ASD for 2 more years till he is 20 and then play professionally in South Africa's 1st tier for 1-2 years. Then once he is 21-22 years old he can move to Europe where now he would have the chance to play in Danish 1st tier or Swedish leagues. However after watching a few South African 1st tier matches I would say that is equal to the 2nd tier of Denmark which I believe would suit Brandon nicely.

You have hit the Nail on the coffin. That is what my point is.

See,he is around 18-19 so in 2-3 years time he will be around 21-22 so by that time he would be physically in a better shape and the foreign exposure in terms of trials and matches will other clubs would be at their peak.

If all goes according to plan he should be able to make the grade. He would be 22 which is not very young age to relocate and shouldn't be a problem. Many footballers do it who are even younger then him.

IMO,Choosing the right club for himself would be the biggest question rather then making the grade.

I think more then Chhetri's success in Europe it will be Brandon's success in Europe that would make the way for future Indian Footballers.

And if Brandon does well,it would open the floodgates for Indian Footballers.

yup...but he is performing well now so he can try for different club..not in Europe but in S.Africa itself in 1st or 2nd tier and shud stay there till he is 21 or 22...
