    @gaffertape I need your opinion here. How much should we cheer about Airtel sponsoring I-League?Of course, association of big corporate like Airtel gives the league a facelift and may manage more media coverage. But where wil the money go? As far as I understand, all the sponsorship money goes into IMG's pocket. So what does the AIFF or I-League get? I am sure Airtel will ask for better coverage on TV and extra programming hours which is a good thing. But are IMG bound to re-invest some of that money to lift the league?

    <br><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br></div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">in seasons past AIFF would spend 17 out of the annual 30-35 Crores on the I-League , and the return from Ten Action ( & other regional broadcasters ) was around 19 Crores....... 2 Crore profit believe it or not</div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">Factor in a fractional amount of the Panasonic , Nike in there too</div><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br></div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">The rest of the AIFF's programs like the National team, Santosh Trophy, Federation Cup, Regional academies, Youth tournaments , U-19 I-League , 2nd Division, Womens team, coaching courses etc. all of which cost a small fortune but bring in nothing.</div><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br></div><div style="font-weight: normal; ">AIFF manages to get some money , sometimes up to 6 Crore from the Central Govt / SAI budgets for its youth development work.</div><div style="font-weight: normal; "><br></div><div>With Airtel bringing a chunk into the I-League,<b> in theory </b>, it could mean that that amount of money ( from the IMG- R pocket money )need not be spent on I_League and could be used on more important things....youth development or National team </div><div><br></div><div>AIFF runs on massive deficit budget....when a pay out comes from IMG-R the AIFF then prioritizes who it needs to pay off urgently and plans accordingly......one of the reason why we never have set calendars for each season.</div><div><br></div><div><ol><li><span style="font-size: 10pt; ">Scrapping Santosh Trophy</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 10pt; ">Extended 2nd Division if Clubs are willing to bear the costs / usual nonsense 2nd Division</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 10pt; ">Return to old Fed Cup format</span></li><li><span style="font-size: 10pt; ">Scrapping of Arrows project</span></li><li>Regional Academies being stalled</li></ol><div>these are just some of the victims of the escalating debt.</div></div><div><br></div><div>Everyone knows that last season Pailan players went 3 months without pay BUT once Mohun Bagan paid the hefty FINE , Pailan players got their payments !!</div><div><br></div><div>DSK, Dodsal, JSW , Hindustan , GMR etc were all meant to be lured in with the promise of I-League , in return those 15 crores a year could've paid of many a debt and brought AIFF back to a sustainable level.</div><div><br></div><div>It would take pages to explain the bad finances that are crippling the Federation, but I think you get the point ?</div>
