  • Great point somnath sengupta. Football administration at all levels in India is pathetic and understandably so, since no one with some decent ability would have wanted to associate himself with Indian football until say 2010. Folks like us who have been following soccer for decades are somewhat zapped by the deluge of forums, discussions, facebook groups and what have you talking about football in India starting 2011. IFA should by all means start and finish at least half the league by early September which is when the AIFF calendar starts with federation cup. You must know by now that Tollygunge has heeded IFA's request and are fielding a team against EB. Not sure if that is a ploy to shore up the goal difference given that MB are now several legs up on that front, much better than EB not having to play one game at 3 pm in the sultry afternoon, war ragged they are playing IFA shield and the AFC cup.

Jewel's main strength, his work rate is completely missing from the analysis, add to that it's too much to expect from an attacking midfielder to tackle hard, more so when Jewel has great snatching ability and gives opponent little space and time in midfield. Jewel has a surprise shot but misses target more than he scores, now that is an weakness, not a strength as the article makes it out to be.

Quality of analysis very questionable and funny.

Yesterday Mohun Bagan chief recruiter issued an official statement to the media widely telecast on the 10:30 pm sports news.
" While Odafa has performed as per our expectations and the price we paid for him, Sunil Chetri is yet to justify his price tag this season till date. That being said, our technical committee and coaching staff is going to closely monitor his performance for the remaining games this season and based on their reporting will be our decision to retain or release him"

Local media, both print and electronic has termed his performance yesterday an "eyesore" and not befitting the no 1 national striker tag.

to be honest (and dont heckle me for this) but why are players like Sunil and Odafe even playing state league matches in the first place.

    Rest them for the I-League.

Also do you know how tired Sunil is probably, I put down a travel schedule Sunil had on a different thread but his was worse than what Odafe's is.

Hhahaahahahha, stop joking with us Ash! We all know we are not going to be in the AFC Champions League EVER! ;)
  • I can only commend the Mohun Bagan officials for planning Chetri's exit from the club so well. Everyone in Calcutta is well aware that once Chetri is kicked out, the first thing he will do is complain to the English speaking media how unprofessional the Calcutta club scene is, so it's very wise that he be put on notice first and the entire process be managed very professionally given that he is the biggest cry baby complaining of unprofessionalism in spite of being a complete failure at the topmost level in Indian club football time and again. For the amount of money he was paid this year, his performance is just peanuts. No one is expecting Chetri to do much in the remaining matches in the I league and even if he scores a goal here or a goal there, it's almost sure he won't be retained. Everyone's hoping that Barretto and Hudson Lima gets back to full fitness as soon as possible, otherwise it will be too much pressure on Odafa given the Srikrishnas, Fernandes, Pratap singhs and vishnu chauhans will officiate in one game or the other.

@ Projenetor...I was not talking about Sibram's capability. He is one of the senior most player in Maidan and I am very much aware of that. But, it doesnt mean the coach should field a player who is no way near the shape. Anticipation in good thing, but his body weight and what you have mentioned his weakness in arial ball is something make him useless. What I saw he was even feeling pain to roll the ball for his team mate. Everytime he was landing after a customary jump he was limping. Age is nothing, but if cant keep himeself in shape he should hang his boots.

Sunil Chetri made himself liable for suspension rest of the season by leaving for Dubai in a huff without official permission to be on the expert panel with Joe Morrison & co. to comment about UEFA Champions League games on Ten Action... All MB fans facebook groups are abuzz with demands that he be suspended on return and a heavy fine be slapped on him. A lot of drama waits for sure. News channels report that he let the TD know verbally but the TD neither answered in the affirmative nor in the negative, knowing fully well that Sunil will make a mountain out of a molehill badmouthing the TD if he refused.

Someone who cannot follow Subrata Bhattacharya's advise on the field is going to give his expert views on European football, what marketing gimmickry ? At least a couple times, it was clearly audible on the field microphones that TD Subrata was yelling to sunil that he was in wrong position and needed to be in same line with opponent defenders with a clear look at the goal so that he could make a run no sooner the ball was played to him. Someone who still cannot get his off the ball position right talks of learning a LOT FROM ABROAD.

Sunil fought with Mohun Bagan Fans after Air India match when the fans told him "khel ke dika, itna hawa pani maat de" after his pathetic performance in the game where he missed a couple sitters and backpassed everything else.
Sunil was brought by Mohun Bagan for Rs.90 Lakhs (1 crore if allowances added) and has scored 3 goals in 10 matches in I league..
    1 goal = 30 plus lakhs!! ;/

If this is not HEIGHT OF UNPROFESSIONALISM, what is ?

sadly this is the case with the professionalism of most of indian football players....i guess it is time all clubs join hand and let them learn that it is the clubs on whom they are depend and not clubs....because in the present scenario these clubs just wont let them be free agent and ready to spend lavishly on less committed players and point on them..i just hope the salary cap is come into scenario faster and all clubs also start thinking a bit before putting so much money on players without thinking
