What would you name all the I-League teams if you had a chance to. This is a thread where you can give your opinion to what the name of yours and all the other clubs if you could change it. Mainly though what would you rename the teams with Sponsor names (Salgaocar, Chirag Kerala etc.)

My List:
Teams I would keep the names the same:
Pune FC
Mumbai FC
Shillong Lajong
Sporting Clube de Goa
United Sikkim FC (2nd Division)
Royal Wahingdoh FC (2nd Division)

Teams I would change the names of:
Air India to Mumbai City FC
Chirag United Club Kerala to Kerala United FC
Churchill Brothers SC to Margao FC
Dempo SC to Panjim FC
HAL SC to Bangalore City FC
Pailan Arrows to Delhi Young Boys FC
East Bengal FC merge with Mohun Bagan to create Kolkata United FC
Prayag United to Siliguri United FC (they plan to move to Siliguri for the 2012-13 season)
Salgaocar SC merge with Vasco SC to create a brand new Vasco SC or maybe Sporting Vasco SC
Ar-Hima to Meghalaya FC (2nd Division)
Southern Samity to Kolkata Rovers FC (2nd Division)
ONGC FC to Mumbai Wanderers FC (2nd Division)

Sorry mate. I will keep that in mind from now on but still I am only asking for what you would do because as we all know eventually we will change club names and some clubs may even merge.

yeah i mostly agree with you and your name. except for the fact of merging eb and mb. change their name to kolkata fc and ac kolkata respectively

Maybe. I kinda like the names AC Kolkata and Kolkata United better than Kolkata FC but ya merging the two might not be the right move.

Also if JCT FC come back they could be Gujarat FC or Gujarat Rovers FC

I dont agree with you all. I will never ever compromise with the names of my beloved Goan clubs. Some people just talk rubbish they are not aware of how much sacrifices are made to bring a club at this level. My village club plays in Goa 3rd div league but still to keep it there we must run here and there with a begging bowl for the necessary funds. I remember what happened to one of my favourite club Pax of Nagoa which defeated even the mighty EB in the finals of a major tournament but once it was taken by Fransa and started playing in ileague it had to be disbanded after a few years. I suggest there should be another way to gain entry into the i league like some corporate from Chennai Srinagar or Ahmedabad or some other state can gain direct entry into the elite league by paying huge amount to AIFF and this amount can be used for the betterment of football in India.

I am not saying change the names and get rid of corporates. Companies can still run a club named after the city and still show themselves off. Like if HAL SC became Bangalore City FC. HAL could still use the club for ads.

Its like what they do internationally. An example could be Manchester City and the owners of Ethihad. They don't call the club Ethihad City FC they keep it as Manchester City FC and still give money to the club in terms of other sponsorships.

Also with a club like Dempo SC. They could still change to Panjim FC and still gain as much money from Dempo Corporations through other sponsorships. I mean making the clubs change names and getting rid of sponsors would kill the teams, what I am saying is keep you sponsorship but change the name of the club as well.

Arsenalfan there already exists a club in Goa called as Panjim FC so also there is a club called as Margäo SC. And mind you the latter is so strong that it can defeat these ileague clubs atleast 5/10 infact if you see the Goa professional league of this season you will see how many victories this club has achieved against ileague clubs. Goa is a football crazy state. You go to any corner of Goa and pick any 100 boys between 15-20 age you will see atleast 90/100 will be able to play Good football. I dont want any name change as far as Goa is concerned. And we Goan people dont consider Dempo or Salgaoncar as some corporates. They are like our family members.

Hey Jose I see what you are saying and I understand if Goans feel like a family with there clubs being Salgaocar and Dempo but I must say and dont take this the wrong way but when they play matches the crowd is not as big in Fatorda.

Do you think that if the goan clubs played in stadiums in there own city they would get much better support?
