can somebody explain why no kolkatta clubs have their players name printed in their jerseys????
this looks bad...coz people like me who dont follow them cant recognise them directly from face...we need support of their jersey which is to have their name along with no too i guess...

This just continues to show how idiotic Mohun Bagan is. Such a stupid club. This just leads o another suggestion which is a new rule for I-League clubs were they all 14 clubs must agree on one sponsor to make there jerseys (so all 14 team jerseys are made by Adidas and only adidas OR Nike and only Nike). Then also the jerseys must have the exact same template used by Premier League clubs for there jerseys.

Just look at the quality of the jersey, absolute low standard.Even my College for which I play provides better ones. <!-- s:violence-smack: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/violence/smack.gif" alt=":violence-smack:" title="Smack" /><!-- s:violence-smack: -->

thats a stupid idiotic rule that all clubs must agree on one sponsor..let there be competition between adidas, nike, puma, umbro, nivia etc..but the template should be same.

i donot mind any brand as their sponsor as long as the kits are top notch quality with latest technology
  • How could the template be the same if there are different brands making the jerseys. I still stand by my rule. It works in such leagues like Major League Soccer here in America where every team jersey is made by adidas. The jerseys look good and sell...

These are good jerseys. Also don't say that MLS is not a good example because of the "quality of the league". The quality may not be as good as some European countries but MLS is damn good at marketing itself. Proof! <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.mlssoccer.com/"; onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mlssoccer.com/</a><!-- m --> Even the club websites are in the same templates.

BUT!!! If you really hate this idea and still think different brands is the way to go then you could allow that but still add the rule that the club and brand must work together to make a pre draft of what the jersey will look like. Then they would send it to the AIFF in New Delhi and they will have the final say if it is quality or not. (NOTE: Before sending it to the AIFF the brand and club when designing the jersey needs to follow criterias which the AIFF gives out, like its mandatory for player names to be on the back on jerseys and that words and numbers be in this font and no other font.)

I think clubs under IFA has decided not to print their players name behind their jersey, as in kolkata league too clubs don't print players name in jersey. I'm not sure though.
by the way, i think you forgot to mention salgaocar jersey. They also don't print players name in jersey.

east bengal jersey is really poor, as its been made by local maidan market, same thing goes with prayag united as well. But bagan jersey is really a quality one. Its being sold at addidas showrooms for rs 1500/-
their practice jersies too are really cool one. Its quite similar in quality and price with pune fc and lajjong jersey.

HA! The Bagan jersey is crap. No names on the back are bad for starters. I still stand by my idea for single brand in the whole I-League.

Calcutta, to use its former, anglicised, name, has a history that has been significantly influenced by the English. The modern day city of Kolkata is less connected to old Albion but recently its football scene has been providing something of a blast from the past as the teeming metropolis was going into the start of the I-League season with its two major clubs - East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, venerable institutions in Asian football - in the respective English hands of Trevor Morgan and Steve Darby. The former is still going strong after more than a year while the latter resigned recently after just two months that were enough only to reveal a number of challenges: the one that the country presents to new arrivals, the one that Kolkata faces in its bid to return to pre-eminence and the one that India faces in its bid to become a football power.

A Mohun Bagan celebration in July marking the 100-year anniversary of the club's Indian Football Association trophy victory against British team East Yorkshire Regiment

Darby and Morgan may sound like a '70s comedy double act but nobody is laughing on the banks of the Hooghly River these days as fans wait for a return to the glory days that they feel, perhaps rightly, that they are entitled to. There will be 120,000 of them packed into Salt Lake Stadium next month when the rivals meet in the I-League. In Asia, only the Tehran Derby between Esteghlal and Persepolis comes close in importance and as a spectacle.
