Savio has been groomed as an AIFF employee....he will do coach education and also always have some coaching role. ..

ISL coaches could be asked if they are interested in taking the national team job... as in any case there doesnt seems to be likeliness of friendlies during the league so problem of clashing and there are some high profile managers working there too

  • I do not think any ISL coaches would be interested to manage the Indian team for the following reasons..

    1. AIFF cannot afford a very expensive coach and with Wim's experiment going wrong they will surely not hire someone high-profile/famous
    2. The set-up is such in Indian football currently any high profile coach will not be interested
    3. Not sure of this - too much interference (namely Savio) in team selection
    4. Not too many good playes coming up..U-23 team proves that

Having said all the above..I really hope somehow if we can convince Zico to coach us, no one can be better than him.

Have any of you seen Zico coach !?
He too will struggle. ..high profile coaches like him are used to working with top talent.
They will struggle with player's who can't execute their plans.

Someone like an Ashley Westwood would be a better bet...knows how to get good results with limited player's.

I agree with that. High profile coaches would not be successful, would not want to coach and are not what we need right now. We need someone with Indian experience or those coaches who have done fairly well with limited talents.

Wim Koevermans and Bob Houghton are failed experiments. I would say Bob was relatively successful because he has worked wonders with limited resources before too with Malmo and Chinese NT. Wim was a disaster.

  • Bob was a failure or
successes that future will decide. I will remember him for taking India to Asia
Cup after 27 long years and he clearly had a vision. As we are experiencing the
most volatile and confusing state of Indian football ever, we need to focus on
two things immediately to back on track -

    1. It is the time to
accept that present batch of footballers will not be able to play passing
football. They can pass but it is too slow for International standard. So for
immediate successes or some decent result we need "kick run and
    chase" football once again.

    2. Parallel we have to
give our young people a chance to play passing football and improve
their first touch, vision and speed that in future we can get rid of British
    style football.

    For the first case Bob
Houghton is the best option. Bring him back with a short term contract, say 2
years. He knows everyone. He can influence AIFF people and make them do what he
wants. We desperately need some good result in International football right
    now.

    For the second case
appoint Westwood for a long term, say for 5 years. Let him take care of new
generation. Participate in more competitive tournaments like Tiger cup instead of Nehru Cup or bring some strong team in Nehru Cup.

We need to select one of them.

If you don't address the grass roots then nothing and no coach can help improve the football in the long run

What Gaffer said. We can play the fancy passing football but it needs to be engrained from a young age. The problem was expecting that from guys who played the long-ball game for years to automatically switch to a style never suited to them.
