i always amazed how can university league get a huge telecast contracts.....if the league are run this way then it can easily attract sponsors,,,..
in india there are 500+ universities(central univ + state + deemed + private) and are not equally distributed ...so how can we distribute the play off spot among them equally (NE states do not possess much universities while states like delhi, mah or Tn has 40+ universities)
and to implement your model of tournament may cost aiff a huge amount...
one alternative could be break the league into 4 or 6 zones(north, east, west, south, central and north east) and having play off played there and the management part be divided 50-50 between the zonal administration and aiff this shall reduce the load on aiff and could be easier to run too..

Thats kinda what I said. The first part will be done by the states. It will be the Universities in state versing each other. Then after that the best teams from each state join and then state vs state matches will begin. Most of the tournament would be just interstate (Delhi teams versing Delhi teams, Kerala teams vs Kerala teams etc) That part will have little AIFF influence and most of it would be done by the Education Board and State Associations.

Also the only televised match in the tournament would be the Final. I understand that getting TV would be tough but surely you could find someone for the final.

if the league is designed properly then we can easily sell tv rights ...hopefully something like this format is implemented in football also in other indian sports too

Exactly and it won't cost money. The players are not paid for playing football to. This is not professionals. This is just a university league for kids aged 18-22 who want to be pro and who don't have an I-League Youth Team/Academy near them.

As for TV Rights. In America what we do is that our College Soccer seasons go from August to December and we show 1 Live game every Friday at 7:30 pm Eastern American Time. So maybe we could do that here. Just 1 match per week on TV.

And I hope this can be done with Cricket and Hockey as that would be huge for Indian sports.

Here is the website for the sports association that runs all college sports in America.... <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ncaa.com/"; onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.ncaa.com/</a><!-- m -->

ya. I mean Sports Academies are good and all but how many times have we been on youtube and seen a kid from India show off his skills and you think that he is really good but then see that he is from a place like Hyderabad or somewhere else with no I-League or proper state leagues. This would them the opportunity to showoff there skills and even try doing well in academics or how else would you get into that good football university.

Also in America we have many universities which are known for academics and sports. Universities like Duke, Notre Dame, Boston College are known not for academics but for sports and that is why people like them so this could give universities fame in sports if they are not good academically.

ya this university idea is an excellent one to be implemented to get all hidden sports talents out....but the question how will one reach to the top body and make them work to find a way to create a similar format league??? <!-- s:think: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/think.gif" alt="" title="Think" /><!-- s:think: -->
i think ifn shall do it in reaching it to any local body administrators and thus reaching the main body of football, lets see

And there is the problem. Like if I had my way I would go to Delhi and give my suggestion in. Or maybe I would run for president of the AIFF, get elected and start this idea along with my other 100s of suggestions but the problem is that can't happen (yet <!-- s:handgestures-thumbup: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/handgestures/thumbup.gif" alt=":handgestures-thumbup:" title="Thumb Up" /><!-- s:handgestures-thumbup: --> )

So right now we are left with a brilliant idea but with no where to put it
  • Suggestion: Regional TV rights

This suggestion came to me awhile back and after some thought I finally thought to post it. In America for Major League Soccer we broadcast EVERY GAME LIVE on TV. How is this possible? Through Regional TV spots. Right now in MLS we have a National Broadcaster and 16 other regional broadcasters. The National Channel would show 3 matches a week which can be viewed by everyone in the country that has that channel while the Regional Channels would show all there local MLS teams matches. For example in 2011 my New York Red Bulls were on National TV for 6 games while the other 28 games were all shown live on my regional sports channel called MSG. Now MSG is only available in the New York area so all of America can not see the match but because of that it would cost less money to show a game on the regional channel because it is only viewable in New York unlike the National TV Channel which is viewable all over America.

Now how would this work in I-League.

    Well lets give you this.

In I-League each team plays 26 games. Now lets say that Mumbai FC only has 4 Live games nationally broadcasted on TEN Action + during the whole season. Then what about the other 22 games MFC plays. How will people view these matches if they can't go to the Cooperage? You would then get a local Mumbai or Maharashtra Channel to broadcast the other 22 games live so that all 26 MFC games are televised. This would also bring more money in as well due to the local media exposer MFC would gain.

Another example is the Shillong Lajong. What if only 8 of there games are on TEN Action + then what about the other 18 games. Again you would get your local Shillong TV Channel to broadcast them. Money would flow in as well.

Also if this is implemented then that would increase the interest in the league as the fans would get every game of there favorite I-League team live whether it is nationally broadcasted or regionally. This would also help fill out a criteria for AFC Champions League which is to have 50% of I-League games broadcasted on TV. Right now we don't do that. So this idea has many benefits. Give your thoughts below.
