the 3 tier league will face the main problem in finance section as there doesnt seems to be any huge interest from sponsors or investors to have a state/zonal league being played in league format....may be they could play the 3rd div in the format followed by ivl(indian volleyball league)where they played the league in different legs at TN, karnataka and 2-3 more places...so all teams played each other once in each legs which meant there was a reduced cost and more matches were played.
i feel for 3rd div to be successful at least in the regions like south, west and north who are struggling to get good sponsors these format could be highly effective.

The zonal league would mean less travel, less nationwide publicity, less management ability need. So the money involvement will also be less. And the driver shall be inter-state rivalries. Minor regional level sponsors may be interested. You are right that this zonal league may face some money constraints in some zones; there, a simplified structure as proposed by you can be followed, which may be changed as and when the league becomes more popular.
  • 1) Hopefully when the organizations start zonal leagues (god willing) then they would first wait 2 years before launching it. So say if we were to start today organizing a zonal league it would have to be in a time span of 1 and a half years to 2 years so we have plenty of time to gather certified clubs, renovate stadiums (which dont have to be that go considering its 3rd Division but has to be decent) and the biggest thing... gathering money. Now hopefully because IMG-Relience is partnered with the AIFF, not just the I-League, that they will help the Zonal Leagues out with sponsorship and all that.

    2) I forgot to explain promotion/relegation. Well first, say that all the Zonal League begin in 2013 for the 2013-14 season. There would be no 2013-14 I-League 2nd Division because the AIFF would put it on hiatus and restart it in 2014-15 (the second Zonal season) with 16 teams (6 from the old 2012-13 I-League 2nd Division and 10 that got promoted from the Zonal Leagues.)

Now in order to get relegated to the Zonal Leagues from the 2nd Division you would need to finish between 7th and 16th place. So basically in the 2nd Division, 1st and 2nd Place get promoted, 3rd to 6th stay in the 2nd Division and 7th to 16th (10 teams) get relegated to there respected Zonal Leagues and are replaced by another 10 Zonal League teams. (Note: You may have to read this twice in order to get what I am saying)

Also in order to get promoted INTO the Zonal Leagues you need to be champion of your state league and hope that 1 of the 2 bottom clubs in your Zonal League are from your state. Otherwise no promotion even though you won your State League.

After SAHARA left cricket sponsorship, many fans hoping that they will invest in football. Here's Rana Bose's (Football writer and fan) open letter/plea -
An Open Letter to Mr. Subrata Roy of Sahara India Parivar - Dear Sri Roy, I have come to know that your organization has belatedly done the correct thing by withdrawing sponsorship from Indian WWF (cricket). Your group has announced that it would invest approx. Rs 500 crores in twenty different sports promotion centers, each with an international standard academy. Cricket is passe and cannot be a long-term spectator sport despite frantic efforts by BCCI and the bathroom cleaning liquid making company (Pepsi). Football has and always will be the sport which enthralls all and India is no exception. May I request you as a football lover to actively involve your Company and to divert a portion of this Rs. 500 crore to this game. Who knows in the not-so-distant future India could well play in the highest level of the game and people will salute you and your Company for being the change agent for such an important cause...

PLEASE! I dont want to watch the I-League next season. I want to watch the Sahara I-League.

Wait so what is happening to the Pune IPL franchise. They were the Sahara Pune Warriors. Are they now going to be Pune Warriors.
  • Shall i make a suggestion. Seeing the recent interests of all International football clubs in investing in India, we can utilise them and Indian football clubs in an IPl like system.. How?
i)Franchise system, which will auction for an international club (reputed) and Indian club..ex..Blackburn Rovers and Pune FC. (only the clubs will be auctioned and no players)
ii)Once done, these clubs will liaise to have the best 11 for a month long tourney..max of 5 foreign players and rest from Indian club
iii)Foreign coach along with Indian collaboration..lots to learn either way
iv)Heavy interest in Indian football and a little marketing from AIFF will work wonders
v)Foreign clubs: 0 investment, high inroads, less headache, better business, more profit
vI Indian clubs: again 0 investment, greater technical know how, more profit
vii) Indian players: lot to learn
    Spectatotrs: Quality football.
iii)Foreign coach along with Indian collaboration..lots to learn either way

We have already seen to what extent the football clubs are going. Give them this piece of cake and they will hound on it & we can even see great footballers of this era playing in India for a mopnth long tourney...What say everyone?
