2012 IFA Shield

The 2012 IFA Shield will begin in the beginning of March and for some reason will have I-League clubs in it but AFC Cup games may keep East Bengal out of the cup.

  • I just hope that the IFA shield and the Calcutta League does not compound the burgeoning injury issues of the teams, especially the Calcutta based ones and they are fighting fit for the last lap of the I league.

Not surprised, CFL, I-League, Fed Cup, IFA, and the EK Cup in Kerala is to much for Indian players (and foreigners). You need to make priorities. Have I-League and Fed Cup your first-team cups and have EK, IFA and CFL be for Reserves and Youth. Youth barely play anyway.

When the club management would understand, large number of tournaments tires the players thus effecting the quality of their play in all cups and leagues. The quality of play is utmost important for attracting fans not just participating in every tom, dick and harry tournament.

Pune FC & Shillong Lajong have confirmed entry for IFA Shield,

These 2 teams will send more young players to this tournament as they are the only 2 clubs with a full time youth program.

Pune FC juniors are currently doing very well in Nepal

I was actually pissed off when I heard PFC and SLFC where playing in the IFA Shield but I am happy they are playing there youth players. A mixture of some seniors and a lot of youngsters will do well.

all i-league teams should think of testing their bench in such tournaments...take the example of epl top teams who send their second side in tournaments like carling cup and all ,which helps them have regular pipeline for their main team for all time...
