This is a thread that I thought we should start. This thread is supposed to be about the stadiums in the I-League in use obviously. This thread is also for news on the stadiums in the I-League. For example in this thread you can place a news story about how a stadium in the I-League is being renovated or what not. You can also place a news story about a proposed future I-League stadium (Dempo's proposed stadium etc.)

Here is a current list btw of stadiums in use:
- Salt Lake Stadium (Kolkata - 120,000 capacity [5,000 to 10,000 bucket seats]) - Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Prayag United, Pailan Arrows
- Cooperage Ground (Mumbai - 5,000 capacity [Not sure how many bucket seats]) - Mumbai FC, Air India FC
- Fatorda Stadium (Margao - 27,300 capacity [around 1,000 bucket seats]) - Salgaocar, Dempo, Churchill, Sporting Goa
- Balewadi Stadium (Pune - 20,000 capacity [all bucket seats]) - Pune FC
- Bangalore Football Stadium (Bangalore - 15,000 capacity [not sure how many bucket seats]) - HAL SC
- Kaloor International Stadium (Kerala - 60,000 capacity [whole lower tier bucket seats, also capacity might be lowed for football matches]) - Chirag United Kerala
- University Stadium - (Thiruvananthapuram - 15,000 [no bucket seats]) - Chirag United Kerala
- Tilak Maidan Stadium - (Vasco de Gama - 12,000 [no bucket seats]) - Any Goan Team

If Cooperage was all bucket seats then that would be great + the artificial turf is excellent as it makes the game faster and more exciting.

BTW get ready for the Balewadi to look like this...

Don't worry the league won't last for more than 3 seasons. The guy that runs it is just some washed up American Businessman who is looking for an "easy buck".

I just hope they don't use anymore I-League stadiums. If I was the West Indian Football Association I would lock up the Cooperage from them and there EFLI team Mumbai Gladiators. This is what almost ruined MLS. That is why all the MLS teams moved to brand new stadiums. My Red Bulls left from this...

the new stadium of red bulls looks cool but similar kind of investment from i-league clubs are less likely to happen ....if you see even top clubs are struggling to get the place for making their home ground so getting a ground for football is less likely to happen in metros like mumbai, kolkatta ,etc...so only option is somehow holding on with cooprage and ensuring that it is used only for football(i mean soccer )

Oh no thats not what I meant. I am comparing America to India again in how footy stadiums will/would look with American Football lines. I know it will take a while for Indian Clubs to get money for there own stadiums. First we should work on youth teams while the associations worry about the stadiums.
  • Cooperage to be match-less

Cooperage could be deprived of all the I-League matches this season as a result of the delay in its renovation work.

The Western India Football Association wanted to finish the construction of Cooperage’s stands by February end and host the remaining home matches ofAir India and Mumbai FC.

It is learnt that a conflict over the retention amount with Chinese firm Avant has forced the officials to terminate the contract and initiate talks with another city-based firm. Avant were to supply stands to WIFA.

“WIFA wanted the retention amount to be in the range of 10 per cent of the total cost. It is a cover in case there is a problem with the product. Avant wanted the retention amount to be around 5 per cent, which wasn’t acceptable. WIFA’s architects, Shashi Prabhu & Associates, are in touch with a few city-based companies who can complete the work,” a source informed.

WIFA CEO Henry Menezes said: “The work would start this week. I hope the city gets to witness at least one match.”
Getting the stands ready should take two months. The season will resume on March 24 and end in April. The Mumbai clubs have six more home matches between them (Air India 4, Mumbai FC 2).

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Now before anyone goes on a rant about WIFA and how slow they are being, I had to wait 10 years for my New York Red Bulls to get a stadium. The Premier League clubs had to wait 2 seasons for there new stands in the early 1990s. Right now Wolverhamton have to wait 3 seasons to finish renovating one stand! Basically what I am saying is just because they are delaying the opening again does not mean this is bad, the fact they have made this much progress in 1 year is so good and they are working still to get a new company in.

I think WIFA should just wait till next season. Why open the stadium for 1 game. Open it with a bang. The Cooperage is supposed to be the crown jewel of Mumbai Football. Make it that in October when the league starts.
