And two mins of silence for those who got off to AFCs press release . Wasnt nice to see people ridiculing a genuine journalist on twitter for revealing this news months ago.

    http://www.the-afc.com/media-releases/afc-competitions-committee’s-decisions-published

Following a recommendation from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the Competitions Committee gave special dispensation for the Indian Super League (ISL) which will be played simultaneously with the I-League for six or seven months in 2017 and 2018 as a temporary short-term ‘bridging solution’.

AIFF’s recommendation to the AFC was that the ISL will replace the Federation Cup, whose winner is currently allocated an AFC Cup preliminary stage place.

Therefore, the Committee approved that the I-League champions will play in the AFC Champions League Play-off round and the ISL Champions will play in the AFC Cup preliminary stage – as long as all clubs adhere to the AFC rules and regulations, particularly club licensing, from 2018.

The situation will be reviewed on a yearly basis with conditions which, in addition to adherence to club licensing regulations, include promotion, production, a player allocation system and the following of the Road Map agreed between the AFC and Indian football stakeholders at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on June 7, 2017.

All clubs of ISL will have to satisfy AFC Club Licensing criteria. Until then, nothing is certain.

AFC has a system of "checks" and "balances". Although AIFF has a power to grant National Criteria to all ISL clubs which should be enough for AFC Cup - not for AFC Champions League, there were talks that AFC is insisting on stringent AFC criteria even for AFC Cup participants. Lets see, time will tell-maybe next year. Let them officially declare that ISL franchises are follwing AFC Criteria.

ISL will have AFC cup slot for sure. but if ever according to @munna219777 AFC criteria becomes mandatory for AFC cup, then it will be a good thing. since at least ISL champions will have to follow criteria or risk loosing continental opportunities.
In my opinion BFC will end up playing AFC Cup even if some other team wins ISL. since as of now ISL teams have not shown much interest in AFC. That will also mean they will need longer duration contracts for players which means more money needs to be shelled out. Its high time for ISL, only serious players (in owners category) will remain in ISL and who were here for short term glory will eventually go out.

ISL clubs have not shown any interest in Continental tournaments because they know that they will fail the licensing criteria.

Their fans, however, are under the impression that they will play Champions' Cup.
