  • @AshIndia Saudi Arabia only have 14 clubs as well and they have 4 spots. Qatar has 12 and they have 4 spots. The UAE only have 12 teams and they have 2+2 spots. Uzbekistan only have 14 clubs and they have 2+1. Australia has 10 clubs and they have 1+1 spots.

The reason we dont have entry is beyond the number of clubs.

And how is this bullshit justified?

Go through AFC rules You Unlce Sam :P

Its not much of a requirement. Australia has only 10 clubs and they technically have 2 spots in the Champions League. Having 2 extra clubs in the I-League is not the main decider... aka: not that important. There are many other things that need to be addressed.

Now im going to kill you,In A-League every team plays each other thrice in total 27 matches. And since I-League has 14 teams in not possible to play thrice so only option is increase teams to 16 so that teams play 30 matches every season.

Why are you going to kill me? For caring about the league? For actually thinking about this? For gods sake we should regressing the number of teams not increasing it. Who the fuck is going to come up? How many? Who is going to be relegated? Hu... can you answer me that. Hello is someone there?

Right now the AIFF should be focused on making sure the I-League have at least 10 clubs who pass all of the AFC licensing criteria. So far barely any do!!! And the answer to that is through promoting more clubs? I am sorry if that is the way it is then the AIFF is truly trying to destroy the league in favor of some shit Super I-League.

Half the clubs dont even have proper personel. How are we trying to fix that? We are not, thats it. We are going to bring up more teams, on on-field performance may I add, and we wont even give two shits about whether they have the proper standards to even be called a professional football club. But that is the Indian way im guessing.

I have hopes that this country will eventually do well because I know it can but if this is the idea that the AIFF really thinks can improve the league then they are well and truly daft. And I dont care if this is Baan's idea. Is he automatically 100% right with everything. He makes mistakes as well as does everyone.

Well yes but I dont care where they come from. Yes I want more of a pan-India league but at the same time I feel we are ignoring if the clubs have proper necessities to even be called a professional football club.

gotta love harmeet's attitude..hes full blooded indian and punjabi and that is proud to represent that.. his indian ambition is perhaps not likely due to indian passport rules but i think he will play key role in inspiring future indian and asian players in india and europe.. norway and denmark have something going for these asian guys which in UK is not happening due to various issues.

  • Their is no point. What can the AIFF do? They should make they have the right club before they join the I-League. Not 100% but at least get their. Pune FC was able to do it so why anyone else?

Also what if Air India and ONGC get relegated. You just got rid of two Maha clubs, Mumbai clubs. What else is their to do.

I say relegated those two (rightly deserving to) and then keep it at 12 clubs and focus on those 12 to make sure that they pass the AFC guidelines fully and the proper needs to be a professional football club. After that we can focus on expanding to other regions (Which because of SESA and Mohammedan, wont be from the I-League 2nd Division) and expand those clubs in, when they are ready. So far, no club from outside Kolkata and Goa (besides Dodsal maybe) is ready to be called professional and thus should not be in the top tier. Until they are ready and can demonstrate it then there is no reason for them to be here.

Slow and steady wins the race.

He cant and who cares really. The point is now that we have a guy who could be an icon. Someone with Indian blood is playing in a top league in Europe. Same with Narsingh.

These guys may not be able to play for India but they can easily become icons here if the cards are played right.

agree with arsenal kid but i think a name like harmeet which seems more indian people can relate to which wasnt the case with michael chopra.. its upto some of those agencies that taps into foreign stars for india to bring these guys into the fold..have an indian origin 11 or something tht can play friendly matches like the catalunya team or basque country team..helps raise profile and brings people together.

but for me these guys in europe will be helpful in changing perceptions and being inspirations to the community here..

I dont think that can happen. Its a good idea but to create an Indian origon team you need around 20 players Indian origon players and all 11 positions filled. We dont have that. And you can dig as deep down as you want but then what you will get is the quality barrier. Are players like Harmeet and Narsingh willing to play with an Indian origon left winger from the American college system for example. No.

Right now I think the positive is that the European clubs are seeing the great marketing opportunities with players who are not even born in India. They should use that to their advantage. And also perhaps this will make them think "If this is the media attention we get for non-Indian born players then imagine what can happen if we actually sign an Indian." This will give more attention to Indian born footballers. The market is open for that.
