You lost all credibility in your post when you mentioned 12-14k median crowds and it won't happen. What are you even playing for at that point? How can you even start this league in October? ISL starts in October and the best players will always choose ISL over this. And you can't get decent foreign players so we will be back to the good old days of Ranti Martins, Odafe Okolie, and even ND Opara. TEN Action would never pay much for this league. Does Eagles even exist anymore in a senior team capacity? JCT for me is all talk right now, I am excited to see them back but I would still kinda be opposed to them until I see something. And sponsorship would not be big cause again, there is nothing to be played for. No Asian competition, the best Indians are not here, not even the best foreigners, everything would be payed for from the wallet of the teams, from transport, to hotels, to training pitches, equipment etc as the AIFF won't help them... these teams left the AIFF. It would die so fast.
If forming a separate league was possible then it would have been done long-ago... well before the ISL even was launched in 2013.
And how is the ISL already unsustainable? Cause @gaffertape said that the vice-president said that the league could close-shop in 3 seasons? Ya, sure, things are not exactly rosy but welcome to sports my friend. If it was truly unstable then the league would be dead already and the signings of marquees would not be younger this season and more durable than last season and the teams would not be trusted with signing their own players and going abroad.
pretty simple deepak. clubs having thier own league have to be a registered entity under AIFF and or approved by FIFA. any unauthroized tournaments would mean the players registered there wont be having recognised status and thereby cannot represent the country or something like that.
case in point the ICL vs IPL times. so no recognised status mean no quality players, no infrastructure access, no sponsership etc
@DX But then there is a question mark over legality of ISL also. FIFA or AFC do not recognise ISL as a league. For them, I-League has recognised status, not ISL. No ISL club has to follow any AFC Guidelines.
@ArsenalFan700 Devil is in the details. That article neevr says that FIFA recognise ISL as a league. Just because FIFA do not say that they do not recognise ISL as a league doent mean that FIFA recognise ISL. what type of endorsement that ibnlive journalist is talking about? iBN live is owned by Reliance group by the way. So misleading public then? :P This is from FIFA website. Here Valcke is quoted saying that ISL is not a league. For any official league or even any recognised club, Clubs (Franchises here) will have to follow guidelines of AFC which this ISL is not doing.
Mr Valcke :- However, he also warned the AIFF: “The ISL, for FIFA, is not a league but a tournament. We recognize the I-League as the official championship of India.
Okay, I see you. Personally I feel he just said that to not get the anger of the I-League clubs but what is there is there. Either way, they recognize the league as a tournament so I don't think it should be a problem. There are players there who don't have contracts with I-League clubs who are selected for India right now.
Did anyone read the article in economic times today....basically debunks the ISL ileague merger theory....also spells out a possible scenario where ileague folds up and ISL never really fills the void....i termed the peace "Mission 200 by 2020" for once #AIFF might achieve its goals under the able guidance of #IMG
