Oh, and BTW, I know I have said his name before but again, Roy Krishna. He is currently at the Wellington Pheonix FC in the A-League on emergency loan from Auckland City FC (emergency signing but I am sure he will probably go back to City after the A-League).
Sadly, unlike his time in the New Zealand league, Krishna has not quite had the same success in the A-League. Wellington currently have one of the three top scorers in Australia on their team in Huysegems, Jeremy Brockie who is now rediscovering his form, Costa Rican Kenny Cunningham who is also doing well in his first season, and young Tyler Boyd who is considered a good prospect by the Pheonix coach... this has meant that Krishna has only played four times in the A-League, all off the bench (for a total of 43 minutes), with no goals, and seven appearences on the bench.
He is basically certain not to stay with Wellington at least next season. He is 26 years old, about to enter his prime technically, and would probably not want to go back to New Zealand's league as he has proven how good he is for that and he still is a good talent. He was on trial with Derby County of the English 2nd Tier last summer and while his A-League stint has not gone to plan he has had tough competition for a spot... in India he would probably be a starter for an I-League club.
Archie Thompson ... Except for you, me and couple of others people will have no fuck about this guy .
That is what they said about Carlos Hernandez. That is what they said about Rohan Ricketts till people realized he was a former Tottenham player and then an eventual flop.
Also, I am not saying guys like Thompson or Killen will come in and automatically bring clubs 30,000 a game or massive fanfare outside of the ground but that they would provide a good base, a good start, for how they establish their fan base. Also, depending on how clubs market the players, it could prove to be even better than that.
Also, on the field, these players would improve the level of play. Who would you rather have, Chidi Edeh or an Aussie international? The answer is not that hard to figure out. Also, believe it or not, these players would help the the I-League sell itself to potential sponsors. Not only would they see that we are making an effort to improve but they would also see that players like these are willing to come to India and play in a league like the I-League if done right... giving them a certain belief that maybe... just maybe... the I-League can become an eventual success.
These things are going to be important if we are to improve the level of the league gradually. I know we would like guys like Thierry Henry or David Beckham but we are way to far away in terms of playing quality, finances, and infrastructure to get these players. And it is not as if we can just throw money at them as they have options elsewhere from China to the US. Till we get to that level then we need to deal with accepting players like Lagos, Thompson or Hernandez as our potential "marquees".
That is the perfect name for India! If we can sign Carlos Hernandez, a guy who knew he could still play at the A-League level, then we can sign Rodrigo. Serie B in Brazil does not pay the best anyway and he does not seem like a regular at all even for that level so a move to India would be benefitial for Indian football and him.
got it. Our clubs should target brazilian and other south american lower divisions even their 1 division rejects will be heroes in india better than random africans and australia state players
