Instead of scrapping SAFF, they (I don't know who) should make it stronger. Retain Afghan, include Tajikistan and Myanmar. These countries either have common boundaries with India (an unofficial basis of formation of SAFF) or are culturally allied to South Asia. They may play in their respective Asian groups yet take part in SAFF. This way, SAFF may transform into a worthwhile football group.
Afghanistan is shit and overrated. India, under a proper coach and with the right players can take them on. Them moving to Central Asia is an example of them being cocky.
Development of football? You do know the majority of their good players have developed in Europe after their parents left Afghanistan in the 80s/90s.
Look at the Afghan Premier League, it is rubbish. One of their players, Mujtaba Faiz, was a regular for the champion team in that league and he could barely make the field for Air India!!!
And what? To teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and Pakistan, India is their Uzbekistan and do they develop?
Afghanistan getting their asses handed to them by Uzbekistan and also losing to Turkmenistan and Tajikistan won't do them much good at all. They should have stayed in SAFF Cup and worked towards developing their own players within their own system (if they even can).
