Just out of curiosity, do Mumbai FC have a better attendance than a 9th tier English side?

  • ArsenalFan700ArsenalFan700 Reddit13655 Points
@Weka Well, I don't think it is fully that. For me, I am just sad how it is so obvious that no thought was put into this and that new rules are just being created every month for Qatar to "work". From playing in the winter to less stadiums. FIFA has been bending rules for them which means no serious thought was placed on the bidding as there are strict rules during bidding and that money was first on their mind.

Also, lets be honest, Australia deserves the World Cup more than Qatar does. Even during the AFC Asian Cup we had instances where fans could not even get into the stadium and Australia also has never hosted... as have the lower Oceania region.

Well, at least Canada 2026 will be fun.

Qatar is sitting on Oceans of Gas and its made them a Tonn of money and still raking it in as long as gas prices stay high.. The rulers have the Local citizens ( less than a million) well taken care of so what do they  do with the money they have?..lets show the world we have arrived...how ???..Bid for the World cup!!.. What better way to showcase you country, imagine  the publicity for a country that most people would struggle to identify on the map.

Like Dubai of old , Qatar is facing the same issues of creating modern
infrastructure  and still having old archaic labour laws.. it is grappling
with issues of how to provide  safeworking conditions and also take care
of the rigths of the Low cost labourers who toil in the heat and
dust and also not upset the business owners ( locals)..Its a very young country thats being rapidly catapulted in to the
21st century age of sky scrapers, Metro etc etc compared to when even a
decade you would have minimal infrastructure ..problems
are to be expected..Question is will they improve and be fair or have a
care  a dammn attiude to the Labour issues like deaths , squalid accomodation etc.

There have been labourer deaths in Qatar  but its also been promised that rules and
conditions will improve, whether this is happening at a rapid pace or a
    snails pace is the question.

Qatar still has archaic Work Visa System, you are literally bonded to your Sponsor..If example if you need to Exit the Country you must have a Exit visa Stamped else immigration will not let you leave..Without the Sponsors Approvals or NOC u cant leave a job.. you must have read about the case of a french footballer stuck  for 2-3 years in Qatar unable to exit or clear his dues due to Issues with his club..imagine if he struggled what can a labourer do>,

Finally for everyone who thinks no money or favours are exchanged to get the right to host the WC is rather Naive..it always happens..  , In the Case of Qatar FIFA might have bitten of more than they can chew and fell for The glamour and technology being showcased.

for all that happens no way will Qatar's right to host the WC be cancelled..Its just to much of a problem for everyone involved...eventually they might just throw money at the problem and make it go away..This guys just swim in money

Sorry but Australia having the Asian Cup and WC so close.. no thanks. Saudi Arabia could host it well. Maybe even UAE or China.
  • ArsenalFan700ArsenalFan700 Reddit13655 Points
Qatar is also having both so close.

True... AC2011 and WC2022 but that is 11 years while the one is 7. I wouldn't mind UAE or Saudi Arabia hosting it but then we might run into some of the same problems...

Western Media has problem with everybody unless when USA is hosting. For Euro Cup, BBC made a very damaging documentary that Poland and Ukraine are racists and black people will be attacked. Nothing of tht sort happened-more violence was seen when Euro cup was hosted by England in 1996. There is not a single stadium in Qatar whose construction has started and already they are imagining thousands of workers dying due to World cup.

Will it make any sense that USA should not be allowed to host any sports event because of terrible gun violence?

In the same sense, proper safety methods should be undertaken for construction workers in Qatar making road, flyover, airport, restaurants. No links of those incidents to the world cup.

@munna219777 That is just nonsense now. Poland and Ukraine was looked at with much anticipation by the media in the UK. I was even there before the Euros and everyone, from Sky Sports to the newspapers were all up about how great it will be for the countries and how stupid England were for having there home be far away from where they are playing.

As for Qatar, I still dont see where you are going. The work conditions in the country have been well documented whether it is via papers or documentaries.

@Weka At least the UAE already has some brilliant stadiums. I would not mind them. Saudi Arabia would be a dissaster for many reasons from construction to the laws... it would be a cluster fuck. Perhaps it can be done but not as a replacement host.

@ArsenalFan700 I think they already have like 8 stadiums. They held the confederation cup like 3 years in a row so it seems to be up for the task. They'd probably have to build 3-4 more.

Not to mention Saudi Arabian folks are crazy about soccer. The last game for Al Hilal in ACL ended with 50k attendence for a GROUP STAGE. The final of 2013 ACL had like 48k.
