I watched second half live and first half deferred. Wasn't expecting much as a very new team assembled. Disappointed with Dika and Robin, they have become repeat offenders. Lobo did well in a short spell but still skeptical about his consistency if he plays full 90 mins. And yes without Sunil this team is still nothing. Predicted a 3-0 scoreline and almost got it correct. I would say the penalty was saved rather than a missed one, driven hard and low, GK guessed it right and dived full stretch. We need to score an early goal in 2nd half to wrap this up.
‘Constantine’s new system is working for us’ – Robin Singh The towering Indian striker doesn’t believe that Chhetri’s miss from the spot would prove costly for his side… Atanu Mitra 13-Mar-2015 07:11:13 Robin Singh put in a commendable performance for India in their 2-0 victory over Nepal in the first leg of the pre- qualifier for the 2018 World Cup on Thursday evening. The Bengaluru FC striker was involved in almost every attack for the Blue Tigers. “A win is a win. A 2-0 is a big margin at the home game. Now it's time to go to Nepal and do the same thing,” the striker said. Having bagged a brace, Sunil Chhetri missed a penalty in the second half, but Robin doesn’t that a third goal would have killed the tie as a contest. “I don't think so. As long as we have a clean sheet, that's all that matters. Both 2-0 and 3-0 are good results and at the end of the day, we won. We will try to win again in Nepal,” he remarked. The former East Bengal striker stated that as a national team player, his duty is to give his best performance irrespective of who the opposition and what their standard is. “For me an opponent is an opponent. I would play the same way I would have played against Australia. My duty at the end of the day is not to lose and I hate losing,” he said. “Personally I worked my heart out. Unfortunately I couldn't score today, but on the next day I will score,” he added. As many as seven Indian players made their debut for the national team in the match and Robin said it was a fulfilling experience to see the youngsters perform so well. “It's a very fulfilling experience. I would like to congratulate the debutants at the moment. They all played their hearts out and the credit goes to the new coach (Stephen Constantine) who has come in as well. He has brought a new system and it is working for us. Let's hope for the best and hopefully we will be winning more games,” he remarked. Robin was injured early in the second half when he collided with the near post while trying to get on the end of a Francis Fernandes corner. The forward however, played down the incident and joked saying, “I think the post is still moving. I am not injured!”
I totally agree with @dhritiman7 ... Here in this forum every one is praising Robin sing for his efforts. Cmon creating problem in the opposition goal area by his physique will not bring the results. How many chances he has wasted .Forget about the half chances , I doubt he can score even in an open net. This is not a rare case of yesterday.. he is well known for his non scoring ability. Every match he will get more chances than Sunil chetri and now consider how many goals Chetri scored compared to Robin. This is what happening in BFC and National team. If somebody has to score that has to be Chetri. Quality of the striker is to convert those rare chances that gets in the playing time. No one will consider as a good player for those missed chances.
Dont worry if he keeps missing, soon coach will realize that and some one like Jacki, Balwant or U-23 strikers whom Stephen is gonna see soon will take his place..else as long as he is adding something to the team coach will keep him in the squad
Just saw the highlights and ya, they're only highlights but HOT DAMN Chhetri is a beast. Jackichand Singh and Sandesh Jhingan looked good as well and it looked like India dominated but just could not create many concrete chances against a desperate Nepal side.
You talk about chances, Chetri missed a penalty,Francis missed one with only goalkeeper to beat. Two offside goals and chances missed by Robin. There were quite good number of chances which could have been converted but lots of miss passes and aimless crosses
That's BS. Agreed his finishing sucks. But ur trying to put guys like balwants in the team who are poachers. Remember there is more to the team than just scoring tap ins. U also need guys like Robin up top to have a physical presence. Reason why most English sides have Emile heskey kind off strikers. I The only thing he needs to work on is his finishing. His work and mental atitude is good Enid. Now if only he has half the finishing skills of IM Vijayan we would have a potent enough strike force required to be in top 20 sides of Asia.
Having said all those, Nepal too had their chances, I think in 2 instances they would have scored. We should not fall back and further tighten the defense.
