Its hard to debate if one has a tunnelvision. Please read if you can as to where i have said ISL is Pan national? I-league is supposed to bring structure from grass root level up by having i-League 2 and you cant argue that is a success.
I-league has failed to bring in major cities in India into the footballing fold and that the basic step to make any league a success. What is the point of having 3-4 clubs from Goa when you have cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Guwahati untapped for football? Thats where its failed.
ISL NorthEast United - Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, MIzoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal, Sikkim Mumbai City - Maharashtra Pune City - Maharashtra Delhi Dynamos - Delhi Atletico - Bengal Chennaiyin - Tamil Nadu Kerala Blasters - Kerala FC Goa - Goa
Total - 14 States represented out of 29 States
I league Mohun Bagan - Bengal East bengal - Bengal Mumbai FC - Maharashtra Pune FC - Maharashtra Bharat FC - Maharashtra Dempo - Goa Salgaocar - Goa Sporting - Goa Bengaluru - Karnataka Shillong Lajong - Meghalaya Royal Wahingdoh - Meghalaya
if name club name as Bharath FC doesn't mean you covering all the states and UT. North East United doesn't represent whole NE states .. crazy shit to support ISL.
Difference in the two leagues is quality of foriegners and media coverage and money being loosened which Indian corporates are capable of. I-league is not marketable unless you actually make it pan national hence it finds where it really is and given second class treatment to scheduling.
Not sure why people are harping about ISL being bad, No Corporate wants to invest in I-league , Even Hero are forced to sponsor it. Except EB & MB all other clubs would rather swap being in ISL than be in I-league, All they lack are the investment appetite.
If EB & MB were joint owners of a Kolkata team in ISL or be major stakeholders in ATK then we wouldnt have had this debate.
Now that the 5 month pre season is over, we must look forward to the real football season, hopefully in September rather than the October start dates as per earlier reports.
