AIFF has decided to throw the gates open for India U-18s first home game against Felda United in the Asian Champions Trophy 2015 at Tilak Maidan in Vasco on September 2.
India were earlier scheduled to host the matches at Duler Stadium in Mapusa but the AIFF decided to move the games to Tilak Maidan largely due to the presence of floodlights and improved dressing rooms.
India Under-19 team will utilise Tilak Maidan as their home ground for the home fixtures in the ongoing Asia Champions Trophy. While they play their first home match against Malaysia’s Club Felda on September 2, the second match will be held on September 23 against Thailand’s Chonburi FC and the third will be played against Melaka’s Frenz United FC on October 14.
Meanwhile, the news of Team India getting trained at TilakMaidan prior to their first match against Club Felda spread thick and fast thereby resulting in bringing many football enthusiasts back to the stadium.
As coach Lee Johnson took over the field with his young India Under-19 team on Monday, it was surprising to see aportion of south stand already being occupied by spectators.
