Iran will host India in the second round of 2018 World cup qualifier today at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran which will be the toughest game for India in the disastrous world cup qualfication campaign
India faced a huge blow with its captain Sunil Chhteri being ruled out due to an injury. The striker who has been part of more than 60% goals scored by the team in the last couple of years will be missed hugely by team. The Iranians also suffered a set back with absence of there captain and expereinced midfielder Andranik Teymourian and there number 1 goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi due to an ijury
Iran trashed India 3-0 at Bangalore in the last meeting in march and will be hoping to put an emphatic display for there fans at the Azadi stadium.
A victory for India in the fixture is next to impossible but the blue tigers will certainly want to put an impressive performance against the Asian giants
The coach Stephen Constantine has huge respect for Iran and says
“Playing Iran in Iran is as tough as it can get, It’s like David vs Goliath on the field. Iran are the Giants of Asia.”
“We have huge respect for Iran. We understand that we will be without the Ball for most part of the match. We will try to stop them. We will fight and try to get something out from the match,”
“We have four key Players missing. We are a young side. On paper, we have nothing to lose. We will give everything which we have. If we can take anything out of this game it will be a bonus.”
A lot will depend on Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu who plays for Stabeak in Norway to protect the goal and captain Jeje Lalpekhlua who is at the form of his life. The game will also serve as good opportunity for youngster Udanta Singh to showcase his talent against the Asian giants
A scoreline around 0-3 would be a good result for India and would be even better if the blue tigers manage to put one past the Iranians and would serve as a good morale booster before the game against Turkmenistan in home at 29th
