In about 48 hours, the biggest match in Indian club football will be played out in the northern Bengal city of Siliguri. Its noteworthy that though Kanchenjunga Stadium has hosted international and domestic cup matches in the past, this is the first time an i-League derby will be played there. As per latest news reports coming out from Siliguri, all 25000 available tickets (including online ones) have been sold out. Siliguri is a tradional East Bengal bastion and expect a partisan noisy crowd on Saturday urging the home team on to a victory.  East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan. Every football fan in India knows about rivalry, if not, they should. For uninitiated here is a link to get initiated.

Apart from all the emotional values and bragging rights, a lot is at stake for the two clubs on 2nd April when they face each other. An unbalanced East Bengal side has seen their campaign go haywire when they had back to back defeats against the bottom dwellers Salgaocar and DSK Shivagians. However, a spirited come back against Aijwal FC after going 2 goals down in an away match would give them the much needed confidence boost. Its definitely not all over for East Bengal, as a win against their arch rivals can not only send them off to a late charge but also keep the morale high before the upcoming Federation Cup. The team however is not balanced enough to consistently put up a winning performance with lack of strikers upfront except Martins have been cruely exposed. The coach's man management skills also have been called into question in recent times with spats with Bernard Mendy and Dong Hyon Do gaining a lot of media attention.  Probable Starting XI for East Bengal:

Luis Barreto (GK)
Bernard Mendu (F)
Arnab Mondal
Bello Rassaq (F)
Soumik Dey
Dong Hyon Do (F)
Shehnaz Singh
Cavin Lobo
Abinash Ruidas (U-22)
Mohammad Rafique
Ranti Martins (F)

Mohun Bagan, on paper have the strongest squad in the league. The defense may look a bit weaker than say a BFC but with a strike like consisting of Sony Norde, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Balwant Singh, Katsumi Yusa, Cornel Glen more than make up for it. Bagan had been undefeated in the league till they faced Aijwal away  in their last match. With the Norde, defensive medio Pronoy Halder, striker Jeje and full back Kotal, all away on national duties, they succumbed to their first loss of the league. The prolonged suspension of their head coach by AIFF would have also started to take effect. The derby is a cruicial match for Bagan with BFC snapping in their heels. A loss would make it a tight affair like last season which Sen would want to avoid as Bagan also has AFC Cup matches (away games) to deal with. A jet lagged Sony Norde along with Katsumi Yusa would hold the key for Bagan.

Probable Starting XI for Mohun Bagan:

Debjit Mazumdar (GK)
Probir Das
Luciano Sabrosa (F)
Kingshuk Debnath
Dhanachandra Singh
Azharuddin Mallik (U-22)
Lenny Rodriquez
Pronoy Haldar
Sony Norde (F)
Jeje Lalpekhlua
Cornel Glen (F)
