East Bengal Vs Mumbai FC

The derby is over, long live the derby! EB will do well to put the happy memories of the recently won derby clash against MB behind them. Today they face Mumbai FC, a team that they havent beaten in an i-League match since many seasons. Khalid Jamil and his boys surely know a thing or two to thwart East Bengal, at home and away. Today will be no exception. Even facing imminent relegation threat, one wouldnt expect Mumbai to go all guns blazing at Barasat right from the go. It would however get interesting if East Bengal gets an early  goal as that would make the Mumbaikars go in search for an equalizer making them vulnerable on counter attacks. The industrious Matsuge, Arata and the long rangers from Eric Brown are something East Bengal would do well to watch out for. Expect Mumbai to dominate in the air while defending and also creating problems for EB through set pieces.

There is a saying in Maidan that the team which wins the derby match generally loses the next match. Complecency, mental fatigue, whatever  it is, Bishwajit Bhattacharya and his boys cannot afford anything else but a win from this match. There has been no celebration in EB camp post the derby victory and the team at least for the moment looks focussed. With Dong Hyun returning to goal scoring form, the gaffer and Ranti Martins would be a relieved man. Playing the burly Bernard Mendy upfront with Ranti Martins worked well against MB, with Dong getting away free. Will he play the same tactic against a physical MFC side? Well, he should. East Bengal needs to bury two ghosts today, the post deby match and the one which travels from Balewadi. The red and golds look determined to give one last shot at the coveted i-League title. Expected EB starting XI:

Luis Barreto (GK)
Robert Lalmathuana
Bello Rassaq (F)
Arnab Mondal
Rahul Bheke
Abinash Ruidas (U22)
Cavin Lobo
Mehtab Hossain
Dong Hyun Do (F)
Bernard Mendy (F)
Ranti Martins (F)

Kick off at 7 pm IST.
