Reg giving exposure to the Afghan teams... ... They moved away from SAFF bcoz SAFF is weaker Zone or Federation.... They are not against INDIA and felt playing in SAFF is NO more good for them and they are aiming higher... nothing wrong in it... Better if SAAF & CAFA merges into single federation... It will benefit India and all other SAFF nations...
It always good to maintain relations ( Sports or Political)... It will benefit both the parties... Maybe in this cup, Afghan will benefit more than us... but again maintaining relations is always good...
Cyprus, Armenia and Israel are part of Asia but football wise they are in UEFA... Israel : They are part of AFC... But , due to political reasons, now they are in UEFA... Armenia : Even-though they are part of Soviet Union... now Armenia is completely landlocked in Asia... Cyprus : Cyprus also landlocked in Asia...However, I shouldn't have mentioned Cyprus as they were never part of AFC and they are part of EU always ( may be becoz Greek & Turkish influence, and some areas are in British control)..
Also Azerbaijan,Georgia,Kazakhstan mostly has territory in Asia...But they are part of UEFA...
Among these, I want to highlight mainly Kazakhstan because they are mostly inclined to Asia and also participates in Asian games .. may be because Kazakh territory is in Asia... But Kazakh football federation is member of UEFA... They want to be in stronger federation and EU Zone for betterment of their football (including players)..
Even Azerbaijan & Georgia choose to be in EU region due to political/economical benefits... Even their federations has a option to choose either UEFA or AFC due to territory , but they have chosen UEFA... Again they want to be in stronger federation and EU Zone for betterment of their football (including players)..
Russia & Turkey has territory in both Asia & Europe.. Most of the land is in Asia and they have chosen EU Zone & UEFA
New Zealand is in AFC for a year.. After that they formed OFC...
Last but not least, Australia is part of OFC.. Starting from 2006, they are member of AFC... Everyone knows their intention to move from OFC to AFC...
On the contrary, I think Subroto cup should be made a Pan-SAF age group tournament. with intakes from Myanmar and Afghanistan. This will make this tournament more broad-based. It will help the SAF countries primarily, but Indian football would be gainer in the long run.
