There is no provision for dual citizenship in India. So an PIO, in order to be eligible to play for India, has to renounce his original citizenship and subsequently apply to acquire Indian citizenship.
So any PIO who is currently aspiring for a career in europe will hardly think about renouncing his citizenship of the country of his residence, say for England in case of Yan Dhanda. There are a lot of issues in obtaining work permit to play in EPL if a player hails from a country ranked substantially lower in fifa rankings. So, any good as well as ambitious player will think twice before seeking Indian Citizenship unless they are well past their prime.
And if a day really comes when the younger ones want to play for India, I believe on that very day we shall have better talents inland and the PIO will have to prove his mettle to get into the team. ?
