The word paki isnt bad itself but if we see it in combination with pakistan , then it is bad because pakistan was created on behalf of hatred towards all other communities except islam , so ya in term of seeing paki as pakistani , it becomes a bad word itself 🤷♂️
Its the same as negro. Why is negro a racial slur in India when we don't have any negroid people (apart from two tribes in Gujarat and Andaman). The word negro comes from a Spanish word which simply means black. If paki is an abuse then so is Indian!
I think context is important for anything like this. If you use it in a condescendin tone, even non offensive words can be offensive. Call some one a cauliflower at the wrong time and see what happens
Over the years, language has become more and more politically correct. And people have started taking offense very easily. As @Naujawan said, Context is important.
In 1920s, "Negro" was coined as less racist word then previous term "Colored" . In 1960s, Black people started calling themselves Black instead of Negro as they thought that it is a white coined word. They wanted their own definition of identity. But they did not consider Negro word Racist at that time. Negro in English language was not offensive till about 1980. . By 1980, US Supreme Court and most media publications stopped using Negro word. By late 1980s, African American word (coined by Jesse Jackson)started to become popular in USA and Black in Canada, Europe. "Negro" word was in very common usage in America till 1970s as Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Arab. Do you feel offended if somebody call you Asian ? same way Black people in 1960 will not feel anything bad if called Negro. It has been demonised by media and Millenials in recent times. Lack of History knowledge has also contributed to this.
None of you should definitely be NOT using the N word because in no context in 2020 is it acceptable to be used. In Spanish speaking countries, a derivative of the N is used and is accepted, but not that word itself. Apologies for the out of context discussion but the page MODs surely understands how this makes IFN looks?
