Bangladesh Premier League champions Bashundhara Kings left for India in the early hours of Monday to take part in their AFC Cup 2023-2024 Group D first-leg match against Mohun Bagan, scheduled at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Tuesday.
The second-leg match between the two clubs in scheduled to be held on November 7.
Kings were originally supposed to leave for India on Sunday morning, but their departure was delayed due to complicacy over visa processing issue by the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh.
‘We got visas at around 7:50pm [Sunday] and will fly for India at 3:30am tonight,’ Kings’ head of strategy and planning Bayazid Alam Zubair Nipu told New Age on Sunday.
According to the rules of the Asian Football Confederation, any visiting team must reach the host country at least two days before the match day.
However, Kings found themselves facing an insurmountable obstacle when they failed to obtain the required visas for their players and staff on Saturday.
In a letter addressed to the AFC on Saturday, Kings expressed their frustration, citing a ‘lack of communication and helpfulness from the All India Football Federation and the Indian High Commission of Bangladesh on this issue’ as the primary reasons for their visa woes.
The club claimed that they booked flight tickets to fly to India at 10.15am on October 22, 2023, and confirmed their accommodation facilities in India in advance.
The complication began when AIFF sent an invitation letter for single entry visas to the Indian High Commission, following Kings submission of their delegation list to AIFF on August 28.
Kings asked AIFF to issue an invitation with multiple entry visas as they will have an away match against another Indian outfit, Odisha Football Club, on December 11.
The AIFF later, on October 20, issued a letter to the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh to issue a double entry visa to Kings, following a request from Kings.
Kings completed the visa application procedure on October 20, and in reply, they were given a date to collect their passports on November 1, which is seven days late from the match day, by the Indian High Commission to Bangladesh.
Wasn't aiff aware and what kind of request did Basundhara applied for? If theyvhad mentioned earlier regarding multiple entry visa it was fine bit if not it isn't aiff fault
But we all can agree the ghost of Balewadi is working over time now. This time it haunted Neymar even before landing. I am praying for the ghost to attack the rest of the squad
It's truly disheartening to see how quickly people have forgotten Mumbai's remarkable performance in the ACL last year. We got 2nd position in the previous season and while Mumbai might not be at the same level as last season, our current performance is far from poor. We've just had unlucky so far. Al Hilal may be in a league of their own, but predicting an 8-0 or 12-0 loss is excessively pessimistic.

Maybe but if you were betting what would you pick for score? Even without Neymar, I am thinking the score line will be flattering 4-0 or 5-1 or something. I am just praying for Chhangte to score in this game. We can hurt them score a goal or two. But if Al Hilal play to their potential there is no way the score line will be pretty. Though Jahouh is slow. He had a knack of spraying passes from the center and the wingers like Bipin, Chhangte could run forward to and create something for the poacher Diaz is around the box. That part seems to have taken a creative hit. Van is a different kind of player. He is more vertical and is providing more through passes. They rarely switch flanks. Neither are they interchanging their positions like before. Till this team gels well it is difficult to expect something. It can happen any time soon but I am afraid it is not happening in this game.
