Bayern Munich cancels plan to set up Academy in India

Translated from an article in Anandabazar Patrika.

A lot of hype was created when Bayern announced to set up an Academy in Burdwan few years back. In the end Bayern has silently cancelled its plan to start this academy, after trying their best.

The lack of effort from Bengal's Left Front govenment is a big reason behind this. Martin Hegel, the Bayern official who made frequent trips of Kolkata made this announcement in a conference. Hegel is head of Bayern's International Department.

On Thursday former Chelsea player Graeme Le Soux mentioned in the same seminar that Chelsea is running full fledged Academy in China. On the same context Hegel lamented that they had tried their best to set up an Academy. They had even sent a letter to the Govt. seeking land and other infrastructures. Sadly, they didnt even get a reply.

Ex-Industrial Minister travelled to Munich many times when Bayern was trying to start this Academy. Bayern officials were also shown a plot of land in Burdwan. But in the end, nothing concrete happened.
