KOLKATA: I-League team Viva Kerala is looking for a sponsor to bail it out from financial distress. In order to get the team going, the Kochi-based club has even opened its door for a complete takeover to a host of firms who have shown interest in the club.
Among the few prospective financers include the Kolkata-based conglomerate Chirag, revealed the managing director of Viva Kerala P. Bhaskaran.
On the lookout
Chirag is looking for other big teams to invest. “We have sent the terms and conditions to Chirag, which has shown interest in our team, and are awaiting its response,” Bhaskaran told The Hindu.
“We have given them (Chirag) two options: one is about sponsorship, the other is about ownership,” he added.
Viva Kerala's desperation is reflected in the fact that the club could not pick up enough players in the pre-season transfer window.
Bhaskaran said that there are many other names in the list of prospective financers, which he did not divulge, and hoped to reach an agreement with one of them soon. — Principal Correspondent
Viva should get a sponsor for heaven’s sake, not a buyer. If Chirag buy Viva, Viva becomes a corporate entity. Then Chirag will have the right to change the name (which I think they will do immediately), or shift to Kolkata next season, and Kerala will lose its representation in I-league.
In that eventuality, I would propose to change the name of I-league to Bengal-Goa League and telecast in local TV channels only (why bother the rest of India if they have lost interest?). Of course, I will also stop following such a trivial program …
Apparently Chirag not intrested to shift the club, they are looking for a market in Kerala,so Viva will stay in Kerala
Thank God, Mallu supply line is very important for Indian Football <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mrgreen.gif" alt="" title="Mr. Green" /><!-- s -->

Great news. it is important that clubs like vk which are sole representative of their region stick on a bit longer as it is important for indian football.
KOCHI: The Kolkata-based conglomerate Chirag has taken a major stake in Viva Kerala, Kerala's lone I-League team. The deal has brought in big money to the Kochi-born, Kannur-based club but along with it comes a change of name.
“Chirag will have a major stake in the club and the name has been changed to Chirag Kerala,” said P. Bhaskaran, the Managing Director of Viva Kerala, from Mumbai on Tuesday night, after holding preliminary discussions with Chirag officials. “It will be the major shareholder and will fund the club this season.”
This means that the club will have a big budget this season.
“Money will not be a problem this season, we can try to get some good players this time,” said Bhaskaran. There could also be a change of venue this season. “They want to take it to Kolkata but that may not happen this season. We either have to rectify all the problems we have in Kannur or take it elsewhere,” said Bhaskaran.
The deal with Chirag is for one year. And Bhaskaran indicated that Chirag will play a bigger role after that. — Special Correspondent
Subrata Bhattacharya has agreed to become the technical director of Viva Kerala
.
“Chirag owner Kaustav Roy requested me to become the technical director. I could notrefuse since he is a close friend of mine,” Bhattacharya.
“This will be a new beginning for the team and I believe we will be able to achieve success.” Bhattacharya
While Unnikrishnan sir will continue as coach of the team,
Sad to the see the state of Viva Kerala,Yet to decide the Home Ground,Not statred the training,Way To Go Chirag!!!
