Now, ONGC may follow the JCT way
Pune: Nothing seems to be going right for Indian football. Two days after JCT decided to disband their team, there are indications that ONGC may also withdraw their participation in the Second Division I-League this season.
According to sources, ONGC, who have been relegated to the second division, are not recruiting players and have asked many of their players in the current team to look for opportunities in other clubs.
Sources also informed that ONGCare reluctant to follow the Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) directive of turning the team into a company and would rather prefer recruiting footballers on roll than offering them professional contracts.
ONGC football team in-charge Bibek Bhowmick said: “We are working on a new system to build the team. A final picture will emerge only after a few days.”
VK Mahendru, the head of the ONGC sports department said: “Instead of one-year contracts, we may offer four-year contracts to footballers and may absorb the good players in the company so that they get longer benefits.”
