A group of Bengali doctors are floating this club; they want to play in the next I-league II and move up, and are looking on for sponsors. Right now no corporate are involved in this. Does not look very promising. Similar venture in Mumbai was in the form of Bengal Mumbai FC which is languishing in local league only.

BTW, we have heard pro clubs coming up in Ludhiana (‘Ludhiana Lions’ by Middle-East based Omaxe Group), and in Jaipur (‘Jaipur Royals’ by Mr Raj Kundra), long time back, but heard nothing on those thereafter. Can anybody throw some new light on these clubs?

    From Pratidin

A group of Bengalis have started a new professional football club in Nagpur. Name of the club is Nagpur FC. At a timew when one after another corporate backed clubs are closing in India, this club can certainly give birth to new dreams.

The men are behind the creation of this club - Shyamal Ghosh, Dr Ratan Ghosh, Manotosh Ghosal. They are residing in Nagpur for a few decades. Shyamal is brother of coach Bimal Ghosh, he himself played football for Western Coal India at a time with Atanu Bhattachrya and Uttam Mukherjee. Manotosh is also a former player who played in Maharashtra. The club has already been registered with regional federation of Nagpur. Their target is to play in Nagpur League before trying out to qualify for Div-2 I-League. Talking on phone, Shyamal said - "We are building facilities with the target of Div-2 I-League. We are being helped by politician Yadav Rao Bhairav in this regard. We are using field, gym, swimming pool located in the premises of one of his colleges. Local businessman Rajendra Agarwal is searching for sponsors. However for now we ourselves are investing for the team. We are trying to get three foreign players along with local talents. If we qualify for div-2 then we will take players from other states on loan". Club officials are trying to slowly build up the club rather than hurrying up progress.
