thats the name of blackburn i-league club
Venky’s would also make a foray into the I-League, said Rao. “We are looking to launch a team based around players from the academy,” he said. “We have already registered the team name Blackburn Rovers FC Pune.” Asked about the climate of uncertainty surrounding Indian football after the disbandment of Mahindra United and JCT in the last two years, Rao simply said, “Indian football will grow.”

Ah, the sweet smell of negativity early in the morning....

I take it you know a lot about Indian football and have had discussions with Venky's?
I have met with the management and it is confirmed by them in person. I don't think they're that stupid to make empty promises like that in the international media where one step wrong and the English crowd would massacre them. It would be nice if you could come up with something constructive to add to discussions.
The flop part I feel is naming it "Blackburn Rovers FC Pune".
What the hell has Blackburn FC to do with Pune...?? Only the owners are from Pune.
Now instead of naming it as Blackburn Rovers FC Pune, name it with the city's name.
Even though they'll be setting up an Academy (the only thing I'm looking forward to in this "news"), the overall concept seems to promote Blackburn Rovers (from Blackburn, England) in India.
Anyway, I thank Venkeys Group for this step. I am sure they are serious people. I wish the Mittals also thought in this line. Two-three such initiatives (count in the Jindals as well), and Indian football would cover a lot of lost ground within a small timeframe.
I don't have problems with any one creating a club. The problem is that people should realize that they are in India doing something for Indian Footballing scene rather than promoting their other brands.....
