Bengali newspaper Sangbad Pratidin reports that only 5 player changes are allowed in a friendly. But as India made 10 changes, this match will be ignored in FIFA rankings

What a waste,if a match is excluded from FIFA's records then what is its value ?? Nothing

Really.
It was an experiment, a successful one no doubt, but a costly one. Keeping the number of changes within the FIFA-allowed limit wouldn’t have done much harm (5 changes are enough to check the strength of reserve bench). On the other hand, gaining 10-15 places by winning this match would have done a world of good the confidence of the players later.
Rankings are only a number. I don't think it'll matter.
If we really have improved for a rank improvement of great magnitude, we should be able to do well against UAE, which will provide the necessary rank lift.

ranking is just number for the fans like me or you or all of us in this forum.....but for the media and all our friends who are only crazy about european football to roll their eyes watch our game.....we need this number to be as much small as possible.......min of double digit....which is the ugly truth....

You are right there about the UAE thing, but ranking has another aspect as well: if you are higher ranked, you get soft opponents when seeding for international tournaments is done. And to have a good rank needs continuous work. Since we play very less number of friendlies, we should have grabbed this chance. Or probably, the management did not think the team might win this match.
Even I think 5 subs were enough to test bench strength. All the changes were done in the second half when we were leading 1-0. So the management wud at least hav thot abt a draw and the resultant ranking points. I doubt they were aware about the 5 player limit rule!
They knew. Both the parties agreed beforehand to register the match as 'practice' & not a 'friendly'. I think Qatar thought they woudn't gain much by beating India, & we thought we won't be able to beat them.

Who told you ? Rankings matter a lot be it to popularize the game in India or help us get seeding in official tourneys.
Also any Indian fan here would have been delighted to see India break into top 100 as soon as possible and this was a chance missed.
