While Playing in Egypt Batran hot injured, then he hadn't played for a long time. So EB is not feeling confident to bring him.

^ If that's true, it's a sensible thing to do. So we already have Yusa, Amna and who else?

No one else is confirmed. Kassim Aidara was earlier reported to be confirmed but as I have reported elsewhere, he says that he is not intent on playing for EB, though the officials claim that they have an agreement with him.

East Bengal in advanced talks over ISL entry

The Kolkata giants might well be playing the Indian Super League this season if all goes to plan...

After Mohun Bagan's annual general meeting, club president Swapan Sadhan Bose made a bold claim that East Bengal will play Indian Super League (ISL) this year.

While Bose's claims may come across as surprising, it has been learnt that East Bengal have been in talks with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and their commercial partners IMG-Reliance to seek an entry into ISL either this year or the season after.

The Red and Golds have been struggling financially and their potential sponsors have demanded that the club participate in the ISL for them to strike a deal.

It is understood that during the time of the Intercontinental Cup, East Bengal approached the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regarding the confirmation of their ISL participation if they manage to strike a sponsorship deal and satisfy all the required financial criteria.

The club received a positive response from the country's football governing body who gave a green signal after allegedly consulting IMG-Reliance. It is believed that East Bengal have got a sponsor on board.

When asked about their potential ISL participation, East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar said, "As of now, I do not have much to reveal to the press.

The details of the sponsor will be shared with AIFF President Praful Patel in the next 10 days or so. Thereafter Patel is expected to meet senior officials from IMG-Reliance in order to corroborate if the sponsor has enough bandwidth to support the club for the next 10 years.

If everything goes as expected, the bid document will be made public and if East Bengal successfully fulfils all criteria, there is a good chance they will be given an entry this year. If not, they will definitely get a chance next seaso

East Bengal's Subhash Bhowmick sentenced to three-year in prison

The former India international footballer immediately received a bail due to medical reasons....

East Bengal’s technical director Subhash Bhowmick was sentenced to three years prison by the Alipore Judge’s Court on bribery charges on Monday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Bhowmick in 2005 with charges of accepting a bribe from a Kolkata-based company. He was then working as a superintendent with the Central Excise Department.

The CBI investigation concluded that the former India international footballer demanded INR 4 lakhs as bribe from the company which was later brought down to INR 1.5 lakhs after negotiations. CBI sleuths then caught him red-handed as he was about to receive the bribe.

The case has been in court for almost 13 years and the verdict was finally passed on Monday. However, the current East Bengal Technical Director has been granted a bail on medical grounds.

At the time of his arrest, Subhash Bhowmick was the coach of East Bengal but the club decided to part ways with him as soon as the news of his arrest came out. He worked at the club again in 2008 after which he was appointed the technical director at Goan clubs Salgaocar and Churchill Brothers and also at Mohun Bagan.

After a disappointing I-League campaign last season, East Bengal brought Bhowmick back and appointed him as the technical director in March 2018. At the end of the season, the club sacked coach Khalid Jamil but decided to retain Bhowmick’s services.

East Bengal this season have roped in former ATK assistant coach Bastob Roy as their head coach.

A source close to the club has revealed that three sponsors have lined up to sign deals with them to aid them in their endeavour to join the coveted league. Among these, one is an investment company while the other two are private banks, hinted the source. However, names have not been revealed at this point in time.
