Dempo notched up its fifth win in the I-League after scoring a 2-1 win over Chirag United Kerala in a fifth round match at the University Stadium on Thursday.

A brace from striker Ranty Martins set up the win for the visitor, which conceded its first goal of the season through an error from goalkeeper Subhasishroy Chowdhury.

C.K. Vineeth, who showed good opportunism, again became Chirag's goal-scorer on Thursday. But the striker was also guilty of being selfish at times when his side was pressing hard for the equaliser.

Chirag played well in patches in the second half, but the defensive errors that paved the way for two of Dempo's goals in the first half was beyond the reach of the young side.

Goalkeeper Subhasishroy's error had given the host a lifeline, but the Goans were too professional to let go of their advantage and in fact should have won by a flattering scoreline.

    Opening goal

The first goal came in the 13th minute when an unmarked Ranty Martins headed in Clifford Miranda's cross. The goal came as an anti-climax as seconds before that Vineeth had missed a gilt-edged chance to put Chirag ahead.

Chirag suffered another blow when its first choice goalkeeper Arindam Ghosh had to leave the field injured in the 17th minute.

The second Goan goal came in injury time in the first half as Ranty, this time, was again left unchallenged by the Chirag defence which was expecting the linesman to call off-side. But the flag wasn't raised and the striker deflected Carvalho's goal-bound shot for the second goal.

In between, Chirag got another opportunity to equalise in the 30th minute when Micheal Matricciani failed to connect Noushad's free-kick which had beaten the Goan defence.

Five minutes later, a booming left-footer from Ajayan missed the target narrowly. In injury time, the Australian Matricciani did well to connect an Ajayan's cross from the right flank, but the ball missed the mark narrowly.

Chirag's played with little more freedom in the second half. Overlapping Shabas Saleel was a constant threat on the left flank and he combined well with Vineeth to test the Goan defence.

Chirag pulled a goal back in the 61st minute when Micheal Matricciani floated a high ball into the Goan penalty area. The goalkeeper came out of his guard, but the ball landed in front of him and bounced awkwardly.

Subhasishroy failed to gather the ball and Vineeth sneaked in to score the first goal. The chance trigged a spate of moves from the Goan side during which it could have increased its lead. Chirag survived the onslaught to launch quick counterattacks, but Vineeth was guilty of being selfish as he time and again allowed the Goan defence to regroup.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The hundred-metre-long University Stadium ground might not be up to the international mark. The crowd may not be as inspiring as that in Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata or Fatorda Stadium in Goa. But the collective festive spirit exhibited by the spectators was so overwhelming as to illuminate the faces of the I-league organisers.
According to Geevarghese, secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram District Football Association, the tournament is being viewed as an elixir for soccer in the state. Though the expected crowd figure of 10,000 seems to be a distant goal, the officials believe that the fanfare have already created ripples of enthusiasm among the youth.
"This gala event, if missed, will indeed be a big miss. If the essence of sporting spirit once gets into a child, then he will carry it with him for the rest of his life. So, we are trying to remould I-league into Our-league," he said.
Santosh Kashyap, former International and current coach of Air India, had words of appreciation for the spectators. While addressing the media after the match on Sunday, he said that festive spirit of spectators was a quintessential part of the game.
On Thursday evening, for the match between Chirag United and Dempo, the crowd's arrival had picked up momentum even minutes before the match had started. The western side of the gallery had several hundreds of youths who responded with loud cheers.

Expect a big crowd in the Kolkata derby. I mean bigger than usual..this will be one of the most eagerly anticipated derbies in last 3-4 years.
dada don't expect big crowd in derby coz this derby will be bagan's home match and the home team (organisers of the match) have released only 7000 tickets for the away team (incidently east bengal). And ticket price rise has even exceeded the speed of petrol price hike all of a sudden. Derby match tickets will cost minimum rs120 (for other matches it is rs 40), even our members won't get free tickets. So, i don't think we can see as usual big crowd in derby
Please check your source whoever has given you this news.EB supporters are supposed to sit in gate 4&5.For away team no member cards are allowed.Even MB members bought their tickets for Pailan Arrows match. For your reference I have given the ticket price and gate distribution for EB & MB
