BTW the immediate signs in the media suggest there is minimal interest in the city about the match. I’m expecting a near empty stadium – 12,000/ 15,000 at the max.:( No ads or promotionals in the media by IFA/ AIFF as well. Nobody is discussing the event.
12,000 - 15,000 MAX!!! Come on we need at least 30,000 at the 120,000 capacity Salt Lake Stadium. It would be quiet in there otherwise
In Bengal, people dont care much about India's international football matches. I doubt there would be more than 15k people
And they really call themselves Home of Indian Football???

I think media has a role to the build-up of the interest. Like they do in case of kirket or F1. For the Tendulkars, the paparazzi follow them up to the loo.
As of now, the local print media (the know-it-alls there think it is not worth focusing until India starts to play like Spain – till then, it’s gilli danda for them) printed news on sarcastic tones. After reading these, you won’t feel like watching the match on TV, let alone think of going to the stadium to watch it.
