  • Only read the end. As soon as it said the second coming on Messi I was like fuk* you TOI. Is Messi the only thing people get from Barcelona. Messi, Messi, Messi thats all everyone says. They also have Pique, Xavi, Abidal, Valdes, Puyol. I don't even support Barca and I know more than the TOI reporters do about Barca because TOI only knows Messi.

Anyway I am happy they are doing this in Mumbai, Kerala, or Bangalore because these cities need boosts in popularity. NE, Delhi and Kolkata have been getting to many games from AIFF. I would though prefer they play in Bangalore because they need the biggest boost. And the Sree Kantarava is a big good stadium.

Besides Barca, the organizers are also looking to rope in two more big clubs to play exhibition matches in three Indian cities. "We have got 100 per cent interest from FC Barcelona in touring India during this summer.

"The other clubs who have been approved and showed a positive are Paris Saint-Germain FC Rangers ( Scotland) and Juventus," one of the promoters of the Kshatriya Sports Management (KSM) said

will barca play indian NT or other european clubs?

I hope its I-League teams. That would not only boost Indian Football popularity but also I-League popularity but Indian NT is good too. Any kind of publicity for Indian Football is good now of days.

Most likely though it will be other Euro clubs sadly.

If we play the big Euro clubs regularly, this might itself be a great motivation for the youngsters to take up football <!-- s:handgestures-fingerscrossed: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/handgestures/fingerscrossed.gif" alt=":handgestures-fingerscrossed:" title="Fingers Crossed" /><!-- s:handgestures-fingerscrossed: -->

dy patil stadium rejected the request of wifa 2 years back when wifa asked them whether they could hold i-league matches....
at that time they told that this stadium is for cricket and only for cricket....now how come they could allow the holding of matches of european club??
and for your info the dimension of the ground would be abit short and the outfield is bit more slope for any football action i think

Same here in New York. My New York Red Bulls wanted to play at the new 80,000 seater Met Life Stadium for our MLS games but we were told no and that the ground would be to small (because Met Life is an American Football stadium and American Football fields are smaller than Real Football fields) so Red Bulls had to spend money on the Red Bulls Arena which is nice but then what the owners of the Met Life did next shocked everyone.

Brazil wanted to come over to play an exhibition international in America. We all thought they would play at Red Bull Arena but NO the owners of the Met Life Stadium said that they can host the match and that they can make the field big enough for Real Football.

Just goes to show you how much popularity and money makes a difference.

Also if Mumbai FC and Air India were to have played in the DY Patel Stadium while Cooperage was renovating then that would have been great. Play at the Patel and till get home support while Cooperage is getting done.

Also if Barca play at the Patel I bet you they will close off the third tier because that is to high up to see and they will add extra seats on the pitch itself to make the pitch a rectangle.

dy patil stadium didn't refuse but asked for too much money for use of the stadium from AIFF..

yes they asked in excess of Rs 13 lakh per match
  • yes they asked in excess of Rs 13 lakh per match

Oh. In that case if you take into count the vendors, pitch workers, seat cleaners, tickets, security etc that seems like a reasonable amount. Could be better but what can you do. Its a big beauty of a stadium and it would naturally cost a lot of money.
