I was happy to see our performance against Australia today. Aussies are head and shoulders above any team in the world today so no point expecting good results against them. Moreover, we were playing a second string team due to injuries. Despite that we are the only ones to score two goals against them in the tournament. But most positive thing was to see that we never looked under pressure even after trailing 6-1 we played smoothly and scored a goal. The whole team was moving up and down constantly, never seen such a fit Indian team. In all the matches so far the team has shown great confidence. For example after snatching the ball from opponent in our circle, we do not just hurriedly scoop the ball away to clear it but rather play short passes to build up from the back despite Aussie players lurking around. This shows a massive positive change in attitude, credit to Ass. For me, this 6-2 defeat was much sweeter than our football team scrappily beating Nepal
Rightly said mate. Much fitter team and the play quality has improved drastically. Still a yard away from Australia, but we can have the hope that we can reach that level in sometime. Credit should not all go to Paul Van Ass but earlier coach such as Nobbs, Walsh, etc. who have slowly and steadily have changed the face of Indian hockey. Also the credit should be given to HIL for helping in that goal.
