There are 3 different posts at ICC: President, Chairman and CEO. These 3 positions are filled by 3 different personalities of different countries and factions. If you want to get rid of somebody from their own country association, send him to ICC. In my opinion, BCCI is more powerful then ICC. With BJP in power, Anurag Thakur is the real force in BCCI and world cricket now.
@Nagendra It is not a new thing, infact Indian stars have played in USA and Canada like 25 years ago. Lalit Modi and Sahara Group were involved in India and Pakistan series in Toronto in 1990s where Inzamam had this fight with spectator over Aloo. That was in 1997. There were some festival invitational matches in USA where likes of Tendulkar, Afridi played. I remember watching one game with closed roof American Football stadium and Afridi's sixers were hitting the roof and bouncing back. That time for such Festival games, these players were young. At this age, if you are sending Tendulkar as a player, that is just non serious cricket and non serious public who want to see their stars. Those NRI people will come if these retired stars do Dandiya also. One reason why Cricket is not promoted in USA is that Time Zone is very different. Its odd time for TV audience-90% of which live in India. Who will watch Cricket in India at 3 AM or 6 AM? American public interest in Cricket is next to zero. It is only about NRIs.
Cricket should follow the path rugby has taken... kinda. People thought Rugby would never kick-off in the USA due to American football but now it is slowly rising, mainly at the Rugby 7s level. It may one day go above American football but that won't be for decades but a lot of people say that Rugby may grow faster than soccer here.
Of course though, Rugby is a massive contact sport and fast which is what Americans love... cricket is not that.
Do follow the ACF Champions League though guys... the USACA were suspended but I hope the American Cricket Federation can become official.
@samiam ; As Nagendra pointed out, Timezone is one reason why they are not organising IPL or any bigtime series there as it will hurt the TV revenues. The Audience is in India. Why will Micromax spend money in IPL organised in USA where local market is Nil and less people will see the games at 3 AM in India? The Sponsorship valuation will come down. It also comes down whenever such things are organised in West Indies. Anyone noticed the frequency of our tours to Sri lanka and Bangladesh because that is Prime Time TV and then compare it that how many times we visit West Indies?
Timezone do not affect American Population as such as it is NRIs living in USA who are following Cricket.
@Nagendra It is very important for Local Population to follow the Sport, not just the expats. Canada has hardly any ethnic Canadian player, all are Foreign born or second Generation. Nepal, Ireland,Papua New Guinea will be next success stories in Cricket as Locals are playing the Sport there, not just expats.
ICC is just suc*ing three countries.... India, Australia and England.. they r not bothered about other Nations..BCCI is better and well managed than ICC..
On the other side, Rugby association is far better than ICC... Damn sure Rugby will be global sport soon or later.. Teams like USA getting chance is great thing.. One upset in recent world cup.. Japan won against South Africa.. very rare thing in Rugby...
