A NDTV sports reporter told me that Nikhat Zareen was very ill prepared in her fight with Mary Kom. As Mary Kom had experience she prevailed in this. But it would be very tough for her to win something at Olympics level if she plays like this
As far as Men's Boxing goes, Amit Panghal and Manish Kaushik are highly talented Boxers. 57 kilo category is very well contested - we have 3-4 good Boxers there. Gaurav Solanki did well.
This will be another opportunity for talented Naman Tanwar
A bit surprised by Vikas Krishan selection. He is 2010 batch - even after 10 years we have not been able to bring up younger opponent.
Sachin, Ashsih and Satish are in heavier weight categories.
Ya, I knew Mary is currently better boxer than Nikhat. Nikhat is certainly the future but as of now,Mary is better so no surprise for me.
The Women's squad looks good. In women's boxing, Qualifying for Olympics is tougher in comparison to actually winning a medal at the Olympics because Asian level is tougher than rest of the World. I feel all the ladies can qualify for the the Olympics and if they manage to qualify for the Olympics then we can win 3-4 medals at Olympics in just Women's Boxing alone.
As for Men's Boxing, Amit, Manish,Vikas and Naman are our prime boxers in my opinion with Amit and Vikas being prime medal Contenders at 2020 Olympics. Vikas's comeback is blessing and disguise because he has the potential of being our most decorated boxer. Only thing missing is an Olympic Medal(he reached Quarter-Final at Rio) and was close to winning a medal as winner of quarter-final is assured of a medal. His pro experience will help him in my opinion.
I would have preferred Kavinder and Gaurav Bidhuri over Gaurav Solanki but since he has won I can't complain but last time I saw him I was not convinced with his boxing skill even though he won Commonwealth Games.
Our Men's team is also good though. I would expect 5-6 of them to qualify for the Olympics.
