New nomination: the Israeli Premier League or the Israeli Second Division. Recently, some former MLS players went over there but they were never regulars, more just regulars in the US 3rd Division and they have since managed to carve some nice careers in Israel.
Israel could be an option for Indian players. The I-League is comparable in level to the US 3rd (and 2nd) division and if they can make it then why can't some guys from the I-League can? Surely Sunil Chhetri could have gotten some game time at a club like Hapoel Tel Aviv or maybe even some other guys in India like Jeje Lalpekhlua or Udanta Singh. Good league, chances to be better scouted by better European leagues, specially since they are Indian... lets see.
Thought this would be slightly relevant here for our under-17 World Cup side. A few things to note, besides that he is trying for a trial at PSV:
- Started learning to play at 3. - The US U17 side lost to an academy side 2-1 a few days ago... shit happens guys. - What our Indian guys should be doing... hopefully, after the World Cup.
Players of weak countries are not in demand. Look at India. How many Nepal or Bhutan or Bangladesh players feature in our I-league clubs? It happens rarely because for clubs, Foreign players are a game changer and they bring them to strengthen their club. Why will a western country hire Indian player unless he is a very exceptional player? Gurpreet Sandhu was an exception and lucky to get a good break in Norway. Until we improve ourselves, we should focus on better, younger Foreign players instead of still riding on Dudu or Barisic. AFC Champions League clubs manage to get good Brazilian players and we should also find such players to play here.
Not sure why the lol gaffer, I used to play for the academy 3 years ago but I have not played a competitive high level match since coming to college (only been doing intramural and occasional club soccer)
