“For me, going to England directly was a very difficult thing. If I could have gone to some other parts of Europe, leaving the top five leagues, it would have been much easier to gain exposure. It was not my mistake also. If you get offers for trials at those clubs, you will have a go. The deals didn’t happen but I think everything in the world happens for a reason,” he said optimistically.
Later, the core of the team including the likes of Brandon, Pronay Halder, Narayan Das et al. were offered a contract by the AIFF to be a part of their team, Pailan Arrows. However, Brandon decided to continue his spell in South Africa.
Not related to Brandon directly but I am watching the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the Seattle Sounders in the CONCACAF Champions League and former Brandon teammate as ASD Cape Town, Ethan Sampson, is starting for the Whitecaps. Guy is more of a reserve with their 3rd division side but it is nice to see him playing with the first-team. He is playing quite well honestly and does well with 2 (I watch for Sahil Sandhu).
Does make me wonder what could have been had Brandon gone/given the chance to play in the states over England or other high European areas.
Shame really. Ethan was given a chance to train with the Whitecaps academy side and then transition properly with the reserve side in the 3rd division and now has a chance in international club competition. Really hope Brandon is smart with his next move, specially since he is 20 now.
